"Antonio Canova today embodies the essence of Neoclassicism but was an absolute protagonist of world art at the turn of the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Defined by his contemporaries as the "novello Fidia", his works are in the major collections of the world, from the United States to Russia. This book was born for the celebrations of the two hundred years since the death of the artist, occurred in Venice in 1822, and is proposed as an itinerary to guide the visitor to the discovery of the multiple artistic testimonies left by the sculptor, painter and architect in his region, the Veneto, to which he remained always attached. Possagno, Bassano del Grappa, Vicenza, Padua, Verona and Venice are rich in works preserved in museums, palaces and churches in the area. An illustrated guide to Rome through the life and art of the legendary Baroque painter The Italian Baroque painter Guido Reni (1575-1642) arrived in Rome in the early 17th century, where he painted extensively, forging a vision of the city that was uniquely his own. This volume introduces readers to Rome as seen through the eyes of this Bolognese master, including portraits of him upon his arrival in and departure from the city, and explores the current affairs of his day in order to contextualize the artist's great success. Images and descriptions of 22 locations around Rome-museums, churches, private and institutional residences-are presented in short descriptive texts focusing on the 17th century, as well as in engravings or paintings portraying them as they were when Reni was living there. The book also includes a selection of 27 works by Reni, accompanied by information regarding their iconography, history and conservation.

A photographic and textual documentation of David Chipperfield's long-awaited restoration of St Mark's SquareThis volume follows the long-anticipated restoration work on the Procuratie Vecchie in St Mark's Square in Venice, as overseen by David Chipperfield Architects. Thousands of people walk past the landmark each year, oblivious to what resides within. In April 2022, the building opened for the first time in 500 years, housing humanitarian organizations such as the Human Safety Net foundation. St Mark's Square is often regarded as Venice's central community complex; Venice, in turn, is often regarded across the globe as an architectural mecca. Accordingly, the major restoration has drawn a number of critical reflections by both Italian and international thinkers. Venice Lab gathers these essays from scholars and artists, as well as interviews with the architects involved in the restoration, conveying the project's pluralistic vision for the lagoon city.

Negli ultimi anni l'artista ha infatti esercitato una grande influenza sull'utilizzo della cinematografia come medium artistico, realizzando alcune tra le più significative opere con immagini in movimento ideate per spazi espositivi e ha diretto quattro lungometraggi: Hunger (2008), Shame (2010), 12 anni schiavo (2013) e Widows - Eredità criminale (2018). In Pirelli HangarBicocca, negli spazi delle Navate e del Cubo, sono presentati video, film e installazioni in stretta connessione con il contesto architettonico industriale, oltre a un progetto espositivo unico e site-specific, con opere riunite qui per la prima volta che danno vita a una narrazione visiva, rivelando il radicale approccio dell'artista alla realtà e offrendo l'opportunità di conferire nuove letture al lavoro di McQueen. Il titolo dell'esposizione prende spunto proprio dall'omonima installazione video inedita dell'artista, Sunshine State (2022), commissionata e prodotta dall'International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) 2022 e presentata qui in anteprima assoluta. Come osserva Vicente Todolí, «¿Sunshine State¿ approfondisce ulteriormente i temi ricorrenti nella pratica di McQueen, esplorando questioni attuali e urgenti come l'identità e il post-colonialismo, mettendo in discussione l'instabilità e la fragilità dell'idea di libertà individuale nel mondo occidentale. Vele rosse: come battiti d¿ali nel cuore della laguna. Viste dall¿alto sembrano farfalle monocrome che surfano sull¿acqua, alla ricerca del vento più propizio. Viste dalle rive della città sembrano una sfilata di bandiere in un¿infinità di sfumature di rosso. Uno spettacolo sorprendente e altamente suggestivo che, se da un lato vuole celebrare l¿antichissima e vitale tradizione marittima veneziana, dall¿altro intende porre l¿attenzione sui rischi che sta correndo Venezia. Nulla, in "Red Regatta", è stato lasciato al caso: tutte le vele sono state realizzate su misura per ciascuna imbarcazione, ogni sfumatura di colore è stata predisposta da Melissa McGill che ha poi dipinto a mano i tessuti, aiutata dagli studenti dello Iuav. Infine ciascuna barca, dal fondo piatto e con albero rimovibile, è un modello tradizionale equipaggiato rigorosamente con vele ¿al terzö (così chiamate perché l¿antenna superiore che sostiene la vela è fissata all¿albero a un terzo circa della sua lunghezza). Le imbarcazioni sono tutte di proprietà privata e fanno parte dell¿Associazione Vela al Terzo. Il volume, progettato dalla grafica Beatriz Cifuentes dello studio newyorkese Waterhouse Cifuentes, raccoglie il saggio di Chiara Spangaro dedicato all¿attività dell¿artista e quello del giornalista veneziano Silvio Testa, che svela i segreti e la storia della tradizione della vela al terzo. Inoltre la voce narrante dell¿artista e le testimonianze degli armatori delle barche partecipanti raccontano la genesi, le emozioni e il dietro le quinte di questa incredibile opera corale.
JR, artista contemporaneo tra i più celebri al mondo, è chiamato a reinterpretare la facciata di un simbolo del Rinascimento a Firenze, Palazzo Strozzi, con una nuova opera site specific intitolata The Wound/La Ferita, che propone una riflessione sull'accessibilità ai luoghi della cultura nell'epoca del Covid-19. La monumentale installazione di JR rappresenta uno squarcio sulla facciata di Palazzo Strozzi, che si apre alla visione di un interno reale e immaginato allo stesso tempo, una diretta e suggestiva riflessione sull'accessibilità a tutti i luoghi della cultura durante la pandemia. Palazzo Strozzi diviene così il palcoscenico spettacolare per una ferita, simbolica e dolorosa, che accumuna tutte le istituzioni culturali italiane e del mondo intero: musei, biblioteche, cinema e teatri, costretti a limitare o a proibire l'accesso al pubblico. Il volume raccoglie un dialogo inedito tra l'artista e il curatore Arturo Galansino che racconta la genesi di quest'opera così originale e significativa, e la inquadra all'interno del modus artistico di JR, che unisce fotografia e street art creando monumentali interventi di arte pubblica nelle città di tutto il mondo, dalle favelas di Rio de Janeiro alla grande piazza della Piramide del Louvre, da Ellis Island a New York alla prigione di massima sicurezza di Tehachapi in California.
