  • - A time travel adventure confronting climate change and the environmental challenge
    av Nigel Cole
    140,-

This is a fantasy time travel adventure in England superimposed over serious issues relating to development of the English language and the climate change emergency.A family of four (two adults and pair of adopted twins) find themselves transported back to the 6th Century when groups of immigrants from northern Europe are starting to colonise a countryside which is replete with decaying remains of Roman military and civilian infrastructure. As a result of the group's various adventures, the two parents discover both children are themselves time travellers from the Saxon period, a discovery which adds a further dimension to the story.Ultimately, the family are able to return to the 21st century but with questions remaining over the merits of such a switch. After concluding a career in finance, author Nigel Cole established and operated a successful in-bound travel company for thirteen years. Subsequently, he leveraged a lifelong interest in the Roman period and increasingly that of the Saxons to form the basis of A Trip Into Saxon Times. Here he uses a fantasy, time travel adventure to illustrate the transition from Roman to Saxon culture in England whilst highlighting linguistic developments and the impact of the Industrial Revolution on climate change through to present day.Nigel has also published an 800-page travel guide entitled Visitors' Guide to Scotland (ISBN 9781916133204)

I was born in Camberwell, South East London, UK just after the war, where there were many bomb sites and houses that were partially collapsed yet still being lived in. This was the norm and I never took any notice of it.This was an era where everything was valued, we made things out of anything we could get our hands on, like pieces of old broken bikes, to make into one we could ride. This continued with motorcycles and cars which I made from spares, anything new was just a dream. This may be where I get my inventive mind, which allows me to think outside of the box, Invent and Patent things and secure registered design. I have always been an odd bod and have never accepted anything I am told unless I can rationalise it to myself. This got me into trouble when I was at school, because the teachers resented being challenged by me. Mind you, it didn't do me any favours when I always thanked the teacher after being slippered or caned.Everyone's ideas are equally valuable, no matter what age or level of education. My advice to anyone reading this is: 'Question everything, and never be belittled by anyone'.

Two young women, from different small countries, courted opposite ideological sympathies. Their family background in each case encouraged a particular stance. Severely though their ideas were held, they were nothing compared with the personal regard they had for each other. The large issues of the day ultimately compelled them to adopt the citizenship of a neighbouring country. The warfare in which they were involved led to their separate recruitment in contrasting naval and air force services that threatened an end to their relationship.Perhaps the time had come for them to go their independent ways.Over four years of distinguished service followed for both. During this time both women achieved exceptional notice in being among the first women to take the places of men. But adversities took their ultimate toll.

One might query: "Why should I know God? Of what benefit is He/could He be to me?"It is vital that man should know God, because by knowing him and relying on him, one gets enormous and constant support throughout your life; a support that never fails, if you live according to God's Law.GOD IS THERE TO BENEFIT YOU.God himself has made a great effort to make himself known to man.God would like man, (created with a free will), to conform to his standards, by living according to his Law.The importance of keeping God's Law is: his Law is righteous and all his Laws are positive and are for man's own good.God has promised man, that those who live according to his Law, even though they die, they will not perish but will be resurrected to eternal life, at the End of Times. God has also made known to man that; those WHO CHOOSE not live according to his Law, will perish, at the End of Times., i.e. they will be destroyed i.e. will cease to exist, (not burn forever in Hell).God would like man to know that: in this world, one is never alone, (unless one chooses to be so). God is always present to sustain man; remember: "If I cannot do it, someone else can and is always successfully and is also willing to help." This fact brings great comfort to all mankind.

This is a true story of my life, which I have always wanted to write, as it may inspire readers who like me have had a difficult life, to perhaps feel that they would like to tell theirs. Everyone has a story to tell. Mine began many years ago, from a very negative beginning in life, came a lot of positivity, as sometimes in life not everything is in black and white. In time, I managed to overcome adversity, discrimination, illness, suffering and negativity from various health care professionals, also close family members. Somehow this made me a stronger person, it is then that I realised that my dream could become a reality.¿

Our Rose, My Reg and Me is a set of ten, connected stories which, when taken together, form something of a novel. They're narrated by June, the 'Me' of the title. Rose is June's more educated sister and Reg, June's long-suffering husband. All three, now well into their retirement years, comprise the main protagonists of the work.Through the stories, June provides a series of vignettes across the course of a twelve-month period which offer insights into her life, relationships, and thinking as well as reflections on times past when all three of them were that much younger, though times were not necessarily that much better.Amongst the various acquaintances of note is Mrs Prothero, an octogenarian of particularly grumpy temperament whose only purpose in life, it seems, is to annoy everyone around her, especially June! There's also the 'Posh Lady' who lives in a detached house at the far end of the road. June has no idea what her name is although she would dearly love to. June has aspirations. So far, she's gotten no further than saying, "Good morning," or "Good Afternoon" even after ten or so years. The stories cover a range of topics such as family dynamics, daily routines, seasonal changes, and personal experiences. June's distinct voice and perspective shine through, creating a relatable and engaging narrative that captures the nuances of everyday life amongst the members of this particular group.
