Gunnar Pedersen's educational and theological contributions have become some of the most important in the fields of systematic and biblical theology in both European and global Adventism. Gunnar has helpfully started to distinguish between Biblical Theology proper, providing core thematic structure, language and overall narrative framework, and Systematic Theology, which, as an applied discipline, provides modern articulations of biblical themes. Gunnar has put the two to work together as two sides of the same coin. This is not only a unique and important contribution to Adventist systematic theology, but also to systematic theology and to biblical theology in general.

    av Derek Crowther Beardsell
    321

Derek Crowther Beardsell (1934-2012) was born to Christian missionary parents in Africa, a continent to which he subsequently devoted much of his own life of mission and service. A teacher, a pastor, an administrator and a skilled mechanic and craftsman, Derek also served in areas as far-flung as Cyprus, Pakistan and the United Kingdom. This volume, published posthumously, represents Derek Beardsell's autobiographical reminiscences and reflections on a life whose rich tapestry can merely be hinted at through its pages. It will prove to be a source of insight and information to all those with an interest in missiology, pastoral care, teaching or administration.

The special merit of this book is that it very successfully places the issue of ordination in a wider context-- more than many Adventist other studies have done thus far. It is therefore an important contribution to the current discussion within the Adventist Church about the ordination of women. It will help many readers to see a wider context, which they may thus far have missed. The overall context is, according to the author, the mission of God. But a number of other areas further elucidate the wider context.
