Maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH) is currently a major concern and a priority on the agenda of all the world's governments, including that of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).With over half a million maternal deaths worldwide each year from complications related to pregnancy and childbirth, maternal mortality remains a worrying public health issue in developing countries. The high maternal mortality ratio is associated with a generalized HIV/AIDS epidemic. The death of a child is a real problem for future parents, and the disappearance of a newborn immediately after birth, or in the days that follow, leaves parents disappointed in a new role with new tasks and skills, and plunges the family into a process of mourning.

Honey is considered a highly complex biological compound, endowed with a great diversity of properties, both nutritional and therapeutic. It is a foodstuff produced by honeybees from nectar or honeydew. In Benin, it is mainly produced in the north and sold in pharmacies, supermarkets, small stores in big cities, village markets and even at home. Much of the current research interest focuses on the study of antioxidant molecules of natural origin. The aim of our work is firstly to carry out a physicochemical study by determining pH, and secondly to carry out a phytochemical study by determining polyphenols in our honey samples collected in northern Benin.

The project to build the deepwater port of Banana in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is pitted against the Road-Rail Bridge project linking Kinshasa (DRC) and Brazzaville (Republic of Congo). Although both projects have political, economic, environmental and social impacts, the analysis developed in this book supports the priority of the Banana port. It highlights its inclusive nature, promoting the national sovereignty of the DRC and benefiting not only the DRC as a whole, but also Central Africa. The construction of the Banana deepwater port would accelerate national integration, thus preserving the sovereignty and economic independence of the Democratic Republic of Congo. By comparison, a road-rail bridge between Kinshasa and Brazzaville would further promote regional integration in the DRC. This book also highlights the competitiveness of the port of Banana in relation to that of Pointe-Noire.

Enamel anomalies affect the structure of dental tissues. Whether genetically conditioned or acquired, they remain rare diseases. These enamel anomalies exist as isolated entities, or are associated with the clinical picture as part of syndromes; these affections are correlated with the stage of development and biological processes underlying odontogenesis since the embryological origin of dental cells, Amelogenesis imperfecta is a rare hereditary genetic pathology, generally affecting the enamel of both temporary and permanent dentitions, . It affects the structure of the enamel, and these alterations may be either limited to the teeth, and thus called non-syndromic, or associated with anomalies of other systems, and thus called syndromic. Tooth shape and volume are affected, characterized by brittle enamel and normal dentine structure. Today, due to its highly heterogeneous nature (extremely variable macroscopic appearance), this pathology poses many diagnostic and management problems for many practitioners.

The study focuses on the socialisation of girls and boys in early childhood education, assessing the construction and reproduction of gender roles in a school in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul. The approach adopted examines how the teaching staff understands the concept of gender and manages issues related to gender and sexuality in the socialisation of girls and boys (aged 5 to 8). The theoretical-methodological contributions necessary for this investigation consist of reviewing the concepts of gender and childhood from a feminist perspective, thus articulating the knowledge produced within the scope of Gender Studies with the theoretical bases of the Sociology of Education. The use of gender as an analytical category is essential for the study in question, since it allows for a particular reflection on the differentiated practices and discourses applied to the education of girls and boys, nuances that would not be detected without the proper appropriation of this concept. This interpretative framework problematises the socialisation of children from the point of view of the relations of power and domination that run through them, promoting conformity to gender meanings transmitted by bodies such as the family, church and school.

The issue of land conflicts linked to cashew nut cultivation is currently at the heart of debates in Côte d'Ivoire. Introduced into Ivorian agriculture in 1960, cashew acreage is growing rapidly, particularly in the country's central and northern regions. Indeed, the Bodokro sub-prefecture is one of the localities where this crop is booming, with an estimated area of 4,725.27 ha in 2021. This dynamic can be explained by favorable natural and human conditions. However, this crop, which is supposed to reduce poverty levels in the Bodokro sub-prefecture, is a source of various land conflicts between the different stakeholders. The aim of this study is to analyze the emergence of land conflicts surrounding the growth of cashew nut cultivation in the Bodokro sub-prefecture. To carry out this study, the methodology involved field observation and interviews with administrative and customary authorities. A questionnaire survey addressed to a sample of 307 farmers in ten villages of the Sous-préfecture. In addition, the results of the research show that the interest

This study deals with the implementation of the restorative justice paradigm in São Paulo's public schools and is based on the perspective of the School and Community Mediator Teacher. The aim is to investigate and reflect on the public policy nature of this movement, how the PMEC understands this process from their own professional work and how they assess the receptiveness of the school community to a model of dealing with conflicts based on dialogue and co-responsibility as opposed to punitive methods and principles traditionally employed in schools. The research followed a qualitative methodology through semi-structured interviews in a priori categories, which revealed a high level of personal support and involvement on the part of the PMEC with the implementation of the restorative justice paradigm, as well as distrust and uncertainty regarding the continuity of this public policy on the part of the state government and the support of the school community as a whole. In the end, we came to the conclusion that, in fact, there is a movement towards discontinuity and de-characterisation of this public policy.

Tomatoes are widely consumed throughout the world and their successful cultivation depends largely on the use of quality seedlings. Seedling production often uses substrates, which vary in their capacity to supply nutrients, and fertilisation is necessary. One of the major problems is Zn deficiency, which is commonly associated with high P fertilisation. In order to study the effect of substrate enrichment, continuous fertilisation and the interaction with phosphorus and zinc on the development of tomato seedlings, a greenhouse experiment was conducted and the results of this work are compiled in this book.

In broad terms, the establishment of a scientific and technological agenda is a state management intentionality around which a conflict or difference with society is settled. In this sense, academia is subject to the evaluative guidelines of the quality of its processes and products. As a state-sponsored institution, the public university follows the agenda to the letter, but at the same time, it undertakes the training of talents that the state hopes to institutionalise as leaders of opinion and knowledge. The aim of this paper is to discuss the central axes and themes of the agenda in order to demonstrate the formation of talent through academic entrepreneurship and the incubation of leadership. A documentary study was carried out with a selection of sources indexed in leading Latin American repositories such as Dialnet, Latindex and Redalyc. Lines of research on entrepreneurship in terms of the establishment of the scientific and technological agenda can be seen.

This book identifies teachers' perceptions of the teacher-student relationship based on indicators of conflict and affinity, relating them to the variables of academic performance, age and gender of the students and teachers. A cross-sectional correlational study was carried out with 10 secondary school teachers from a state public school, who assessed 10 students using the Teacher-Student Relationship Scale (ERPA). The results suggest that female teachers tend to have greater affinity with female students and conflictual relationships with male students. When correlating the academic performance variable with the affinity and conflict indicators, there was a weak positive correlation between the conflict indicator and academic performance in Philosophy. However, in Geography, there is also a weak positive correlation, but with the affinity indicator.

The aim of this study was to analyse the permanence of students entering in 2011/01 on the undergraduate accounting course at UNEMAT's Cáceres Campus, from a quantitative and qualitative research perspective. Firstly, we analysed the historical situation of the students in order to trace their academic flow. To do this, we analysed the transcripts of 41 students entering the class under study, which were made available by the Academic System. Secondly, we applied a questionnaire to analyse their opinions on permanence. The results showed that only 22% of the students were able to complete the course in the minimum time required to complete it, 22% were held back, 2% withdrew, 10% transferred and 44% dropped out. The main causes of evasion and retention are related to socio-economic, learning and pedagogical issues. We can see from the profile of the subjects that the admission policies are being implemented satisfactorily, catering for all genders, colours and social classes. The high level of evasion and retention demonstrates the need to implement student permanence policies.

The aim of our research was to show the effect of commercial strategy on the commercial performance of cooperative societies in the far north of Cameroon. To carry out this study, we opted for a qualitative approach, conducting semi-directive interviews with cooperative company promoters and MINADER (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) staff. After analyzing the data, we found that most cooperatives do not have strategic documents setting out their short-, medium- and long-term objectives. This makes it difficult to talk about performance, and traditional indicators such as changes in sales volume, turnover or market share are not adapted to the particularities of farming operations.

Bariatric surgery has shown effective and well-established results in the fight against the obesity pandemic. However, there are still few studies evaluating prognostic factors in the success of surgical treatment for obesity. Recently, studies have described that Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is directly related to obesity and the greater difficulty in losing weight with clinical treatment. This study aims to begin analyzing the possible negative effects of ADHD on the success of bariatric surgery.

Oral cancer is the fifth most common type of malignant neoplasm worldwide. The best-known risk factors for the development of this lesion are tobacco, alcoholism, papillomavirus infections and, more recently, the use of pesticides, substances considered carcinogenic to human health. In the study presented in this book, we evaluated the occurrence of 132 cases of squamous cell carcinoma of the mouth in a public laboratory in the state of Mato Grosso using georeferencing from 2005 to 2011, profiling the cases according to gender, age and year of diagnosis. The cases evaluated came from 49 municipalities, with the most significant originating in Cuiabá, Várzea Grande and Rondonópolis. It was possible to conclude that the data evaluated did not allow us to find a cause and effect relationship between squamous cell carcinoma of the mouth and pesticide use.

Currently, a large part of the resources available for research are being directed towards the energy sector. The current demand for energy has led humanity to develop mechanisms and solutions that generate reductions in consumption and better utilisation of energy resources. In the steel industry, there are two pieces of equipment that are major consumers of energy in the form of combustible gases: blast furnace regenerators and slab or billet reheating furnaces. The basic function of refractories in this equipment is to withstand the high temperatures required by the process and keep the heat generated by the combustible gases inside the equipment. Following this line of research and with the aim of saving energy, a refractory composite doped with silicon carbide (SiC) and chromium oxide (Cr2O3) was developed, based on alumina (Al2O3) and silicon oxide (SiO2). This composite was used as a surface coating for the refractories and an increase in their thermal emissivity was obtained. The experiments confirmed that the specimens coated with the composite had a lower temperature than those that were not coated.

Cholera is a contagious infectious diarrheal disease, the severe form of which can be fatal within hours if not treated immediately. This strictly human disease is caused by Vibrio cholerae, a curved Gram-negative bacillus with a unique polar flagellum that gives it the high mobility characteristic of this bacterium.According to WHO reports, between 100,000 and 300,000 new cases of cholera have been reported worldwide each year over the last ten years. However, these figures underestimate the scale of the disease due to problems of access to care, inadequate epidemiological surveillance systems and under-reporting. Of the 724,108 cases and 17,386 deaths from cholera reported by the World Health Organization (WHO) between 2002 and 2006, over 94% of cases and 97% of deaths were linked to epidemics that occurred in Africa.

Since the 1940s, sports journalism began to take shape in the printed newspapers of Piauí. With the professionalisation of journalism, sports columnists, even without having attended courses, managed to make the period from 1963 to 1983 the most prosperous for the profession. With football gaining the support of political agents, journalists then transformed the sport into a subject for social debate. Through the reports, we can build a panorama of the activity in Piauí based on the municipalities of Teresina and Parnaíba, where local football began. By bringing up the social events, it is possible to see how football, the press and politics established a relationship of complicity. The 'bread and circuses' of Brazilian society during the military dictatorship, where football was the most important and effective instrument in the strategy of social control, and how much the press contributed to this.

Wiretapping is a method of obtaining evidence that is part of covert investigation methods and whose regulation has undergone several changes in recent years as a result of the growing use of wiretapping. Although the rules governing the admissibility of wiretaps are fairly detailed and relatively stabilised, the same does not apply to the issue of publishing or circulating the content of telephone interceptions that reach the public domain, namely through the media. The Portuguese have been systematically confronted with the publicising of phone taps by various media outlets, particularly in the context of major criminal cases involving public figures and politicians responsible for non-transparent practices. A harmonisation of rights is therefore required, based on the similar value of the constitutional values identified, through a case-by-case but predictable approach that guarantees respect for the minimum content of the rights affected.

Market gardeners in the town of Mbanza-ngungu are experiencing technical problems (diseases and pests (nematodes, thrips, etc.), soil impoverishment, lower yields, etc.) in their chive cultivation. This thesis experimented with the effect of limestone powder combined with NPK 17-17-17 mineral fertilization to improve, if not maintain, production at an acceptable level and manage nematode attacks. For this purpose, the local chive cultivar was tested. The trial was conducted using a split-plot design with three replications. Data recorded included incidence of nematode infestation, plant length, number of tillers produced per plant, and yield obtained (after extrapolation to the hectare). Overall, the results showed that the use of NPK 17-17-17 mineral fertilizer combined with limestone powder significantly influenced the length growth, number of tillers and yield of chives, and reduced the level of nematode infestation.

The latest reforms in the educational context, following the enactment of the Law of Guidelines and Bases of National Education (LDBEN 9.394/96), whose main objective is to raise the quality of basic education, have adopted the idea of competences applied at all levels of the Brazilian education system. The postulate of competences has become the keynote of educational legislation, making it omnipresent in educational proposals and official documents underway in the country, such as: National Curriculum Parameters (PCNs), National Curriculum Guidelines (DCNs), PROVA BRASIL and the National High School Exam (ENEM). As a result, for years to come, the hegemonic idea of the quality of teaching work may be strongly marked by an instrumental nature, tainting alternatives. Teaching is not reduced to the immediate purpose of applying official proposals (reification), but above all contributes to longer-term effects on the destiny of social reality and the subject's critical insertion into the life of the polis (recognition). This is why it is essential to structure pedagogical work along the lines of what can reinforce the development of ethicality.

Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disease that affects millions of people around the world and significantly affects the quality of life of both sufferers and their families. To a large extent, beliefs, stigmatisation and prejudice against epilepsy are responsible for these disturbances, because in addition to the need to control seizures, there are also psychological and social factors that affect the lives of those who have to live with the disease. *** This work was developed in partnership with the following authors: Carlos Alberto do Amaral Medeiros, Carlos Frederico de Almeida Rodrigues, Master's Degree from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul, Specialist in Neurosurgery from the Souza Aguiar Municipal Hospital (HMSA), Specialist in Paediatric Neurosurgery from the Fernandes Figueira Institute (IFF) and Professor of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Bioethics at the State University of Western Paraná. The aim of this research is to take a critical view of the learning assessment instruments used in distance learning higher education courses. The aim is to find out whether the assessment instruments used to monitor and measure the learning of students on distance learning higher education courses meet the objectives of the teaching-learning process. The circumstances surrounding assessment have aroused the interest of several researchers. Assessing is a complex act that has to be done with responsibility and ethical and moral commitment. The search for answers is investigating the following points: What is the importance of assessment in the teaching-learning context? What methods do teachers usually use to assess distance learning students? Does the way in which students are assessed in distance learning contemplate the purposes of the teaching-learning process? Assessment is part of the educational system. The interaction between the players in this process - teacher and student - makes education happen and the difference is the degree of commitment on the part of the teacher.

Law and religion have always been very close and today this reality is no different. With the growing advance of the so-called "Evangelical Benches", society's major issues have reached another level of discussion and debate. Surrounded by dogmas and paradigms, religion and religiosity have been part of society since primitive times, and human beings have manifested their spirituality in different ways over time. On the other hand, the legislative houses have received an increasing number of parliamentarians of public religious confession, which has brought up a very old debate: Should religious people participate in a political career? Is the exercise of religious office compatible with political office? Is the participation of a "religious caucus" in legislative houses healthy for democracy? This book discusses these and other issues, starting with the origin of law, the interference of religion in its development, its role in the development of society, rights and the secularity of the state in the face of the need to regulate religious matters, as well as discussing the role of religious freedom in the face of minority rights.
