When thirteen-year-old Jim discovers Sam, an older black man, fishing in his favorite spot one day, he has no idea his life is about to change. The two form a remarkable relationship and as the summer unfolds, Jim learns there is more to his new friend than he ever imagined-and that life's most valuable lessons are often the most painful. Hailed as "An excellent first novel" by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Larry McMurtry, River Season tells the story of a young boy's magical summer in a small Texas town in the 1960s. Exploring the innocence, joy and heartbreak of youth, this semi-autobiographical tale grabs readers' hearts and does not let go.

Author John Sager, a retired CIA intelligence officer, tells his readers how he changed from a critical suspect to a firm believer in Jesus Christ. In this anthology/apologia, he traces the historicity of the four gospels, describes their authors, and leads his readers all the way to the crucifixion and ascension of Jesus Christ. Citing reliable source material, his writing dispels any doubts his readers may have about the life and times of Jesus Christ.

Island of Misfit Joys contains stories of inspiration, making mistakes, finding happiness as well as bringing to light anecdotes of deliberate and unexpected kindness. Many times these random encounters have elements of untapped joy, everyday life, vulnerability, and our reactions. Ravi Zacharias stated, "None of us escapes life without some ecstasy and heartache." When you see a baby jumping for joy, splashing water during a bath, or smiling from a hug you just gave them, we rarely question their excitement and enjoy the moment of their ebullient happiness. Not everything fits together perfectly. Sometimes a misfit experience turns into an unexpected joy!As adults, I find that we often feel guilty, (or are made to feel guilty) if we express our own joy. God has given each of us so many gifts, so that we can choose to build each other up, to keep these gifts latent, or to bring people to their knees with unkind words. I hope your day is a happy one.Brené Brown reminds us, "Vulnerability is the birthplace of innovation, creativity and change." This book is also about what I observe, react to, and reflect on-often in complete awe. I also hope this helps you to see that there is much good in the world. We just have to look around us, and we have the power to make positive, impactful changes in our immediate surroundings and in bigger circles, too. What actions do you take when no one is looking?Alison McGhee said, "Every moment of every day you can bring people down or you can lift them up-you, one small person-by the energy you project. We choose what we want our lives to mean, and what we want to leave behind. We have the power to write our own stories. Remember that." It is in this spirit that these stories of inspiration are shared.I feel a bit overwhelmed by people who express that I am "positive." Someone asked me "What are you on?"I just realize that I have so much time left, people are generally good, some will not like you no matter what you do, and life is just one big sitcom, so laugh a little or laugh a lot. Also, I have faced my own mortality a few times, and I am continuing to see that many times you and I are, metaphorically speaking, given a bundle of Christmas lights to untangle. You unravel the lights, plug them into some good power source, and voila, you have some magic before your eyes.Or, you have a new source of power that you just plugged into, and the lights suddenly short out. Now, you have to find a new way to see the lights again.I also have witnessed enough horrible and miraculous life experiences that made me strongly consider focusing more on the miraculous, yet everyday experiences and how we can work toward achieving happiness, even if what you thought might happen did not fit. Often what we did not see fitting in our own lives often brings us unintended joy!

Generally, Christians believe that the scriptures in the Bible-both the Old and the New Testaments-are the words of God. They believe God resides in heaven and human beings live on the planet Earth. Then the question is, in the beginning, before the Bible says God created the heaven and the earth, where had God lived? Had he been homeless before he created heaven? In the Old Testament, humans were required to offer some burnt offerings "of a sweet savor, a sacrifice made by fire," and drink offerings. Should we say, "God was homeless, hungry, and thirsty, and that was why he created heaven, humans, and animals, and required humans to offer burnt animals and drinks"? Many Bible readers believe Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Eden, paradise, and on the planet Earth. But is that true? Let us try to locate where the paradise is. Revelation 2:7 tells us, "He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God." Now we know "the tree of life" is in the midst of the paradise of God. Where else can we find "the tree of life" in the scripture? Genesis 2:9 tells us, "And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden." Through these scriptures, we can see that "the tree of life" is in the midst of the garden, in the midst of the paradise of God, not on the planet Earth. The scriptures also tell us that Adam and Eve were there. Could they be in physical human bodies in paradise on the planet Earth?Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 12:2-4: "I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven. And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter." Could a person be "caught up into paradise" if the paradise was on the planet Earth? It was written in Luke 23:43, "And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise." The "him" in this verse was one of the thieves crucified with Jesus. Does any scripture tell us Jesus's resurrected physical body took the hand of the thief, also in a physical human body (Jesus must have resurrected the thief's physical human body, too), and led him into paradise, someplace on this planet Earth? No, it does not. Through all these verses, do we still believe paradise is on this planet Earth?

The story of public education in the early 21st century through the eyes of a well-respected educator and his fight against an over-zealous administration's efforts to strip its teachers of all their individuality. Both exposé and memoir, this is the tale of one man's search for the perfect career and what turned that perfect career into a struggle to maintain a teacher's ability to create his or her own curriculum, based on years of experience, instead of a one size fits all model that was being shoved down our throats by administrators who were bowing to pressure from parents as well as their own ill-conceived feelings of superiority. Do you want to know why the number of teachers are leaving the profession in greater numbers than ever before? This is the story of what started it all.

The Birth of a Voice comprises six years of work, enveloping the reader in a bold exploration of the growing up process, the human condition, and the relationships that shape us. It is an urgent call to humanity to recognize, reclaim, and review the experiences and emotions that make us human so that we all can move one step closer to fully realizing the strength within ourselves and the collective.Life is a circuitous road traveled by all, yet we often feel as though we must traverse it alone. We often forget that we are connected through the human experience far more than we are separated by life's minutia. We all grow up. We all endure hardship. We all experience joy and loss. The Birth of a Voice tells the dynamic story of us all-human triumphs and tribulations-and reminds us that we all have permission, and indeed the responsibility, to harness the power of our voices.

Seventeen year old Remy West is a typical high school senior. She is bright, popular with her friends and schoolmates, a leader on her cheerleader squad and looking forward to the next chapter of her life when she graduates and attends college. Like most teenaged girls living in an affluent area of Long Island and part of what many consider the popular group, Remy has her insecurities. One of the prettier girls in school, Remy has never had, nor wanted, a serious relationship or any relationship at all. She feels much more at ease in a small, quiet group of people or just hunkering down at home with a good book, rather than hanging in a big crowd or partying with whom many consider to be her popular group of friends. Remy has always felt that a piece of her was incomplete and her quest for something deeper often cast her as cold, conceited and a bit of a tease by others. Even as a little girl, Remy had an intense feeling that something bigger was awaiting her, just out of reach. But now, as a popular senior with the all of the peer pressure that accompanied such a label, it would be so much easier if she could just let go, not care, and go with the flow her friends always seemed to want from her. Such pressure was no more present than with Daniel Gatto, the tall, popular senior that most girls would kill just to get close to. Daniel had been courting Remy on and off all of senior year. While Daniel was attractive, something about him always made Remy apprehensive and a bit uncomfortable. Moreover, Daniel refused to take no for an answer despite Remy's polite rebuff to his advances leading Remy to question whether Daniel's interest in her was genuine or for some ulterior motive. With a simple tap on the shoulder, Remy's life would change forever. Logan Canino was unlike any boy she had ever seen. As soon as Remy lays eyes on him, she knows he is more then just a new guy at school. Remy does not know why, but she feels an instant connection to Logan. Little did she know that Logan had been keeping watch on Remy all her life and the connection she felt had been forged years before when she was just a little girl. Remy quickly learns that Logan Canino is no boy at all. Although appearing to be just 18, Logan is in reality decades older and not exactly human, but instead a Canine Shifter and the designated future leader of the Shifter Council, the ruling body overseeing the four shifter clans created in ancient Rome by Diana, the goddess of the hunt and guardian of wild beasts, horses and domesticated animals. Logan's sudden appearance in Remy's life is no coincidence. He has known since Remy was a child that she is his one true soul mate and the only person who can help him attain his full potential and power as leader of the four clans. But there are dark forces lurking about that will take extreme measures to keep Remy and Logan apart and keep them from completing their bonding ritual. Alternating between ancient Roman times and the creation of the four shifter clans, Druid life and Shaman Priests in Ireland during the Iron Age, the founding of an exclusive prep school in 1901 in Upstate New York and the present day social pressures experienced by high school girls. Remy, the high school dreamer looking for more than life has thus far offered; Logan, the canine shifter destined for leadership, who believes nothing is more important than finding one's true soul mate; and Daniel, the shrewd, but evil, nemesis, who will stop at nothing to keep Logan from taking his rightful place as Leader of the Shifter Council.

Rottweillers are dangerous. They're not cute, they're rarely playful and if you come across one it's best to have a chain link fence between you and it. This is the twelfth book in the John Board series. He's older, tired, less friendly and more likely to bite.

Shǒuxiān, zhège shìjiān jīngjì zhìdù de guīlǜ shuō, nǐ bìxū kào zìjǐ de lìliàng nǔlì gōngzuò.
