After writing my first book, Dominant Female, I often thought of one character who seemed to have a separate story she wanted to tell. She was abandoned as a baby and grew up in an orphanage, but after some trouble she ran away. She was subjected to abuse from her partner who was knifed and died in prison, but for reasons she was never able to understand, she was befriended by a woman who eventually became her best friend, and her life improved as her children grew up. Unbeknown to her, her mother had always worried where her daughter was, and if she ever thought of her, and what she may have been told about her. Her mother then began to speak out. She became an advocate for the stolen generations movement, and during a television program she spoke for the first time about her lost child.

The Generals Speak and Other Poems offers poems on a range of topics and points of view. Following the author's earlier poetic works, Poems From the Top of the World, and From the Edge of Europe to Yankee Stadium, this book finds its inspiration in a variety of situations. "The Generals Speak" reflects on the words of generals on the verge of historic conflicts. "A Night for Ivy" scans the environment at a sports dinner that carries political implications. "De Senectute" considers the merits of old age. "At the Last Supper" reviews the thoughts of those present at the Last Supper. "Originale" reflects on hawkers selling to tourists near Rome's Spanish Steps. The author's preference is for shorter poems with insights into matters big and small. As with previous works by the author, look for insight into the human heart in such additional matters as North vs. South America and Malthus's views on land. As a student of James Wright, the American poet, and others, the author seeks to please and inform readers.

Born in Mexico in August 1999, a woman was born at the end of the millennium, growing up in a new one. At age 6 my father's job led us to begin a new adventure as Mexican Expatriates. We lived the following 12 years moving around the world. The whole journey was confusing, scary, and constantly changing. The biggest challenge I had growing up was figuring out who I was. In the end, I figured it out: I am a daughter of God. This is my testimony, how all along He chased me. It's my story, it was not easy, depression and anxiety were my constant companions. This is my goodbye to my old life, acknowledging His grace by sharing my trials with others. This was me, before Him.

Respect the Thorn Poetry by Gina Rose is a poetic diary. Brimming with thought-provoking essence, the words dance together painting the odyssey and pondering of the author. The anthology is composed of the three parts of a rose: the stem, the thorn, and the petal. The stem journeys back to the past of the author; the thorn dances with darkness and traces the pokes that have shaped the author. Both the stem and the thorn enable the writer to find the petal, which unveils how soft and sweet this experience can be even as it wilts before us.

This gentle, loving and magical tale of an old man's insistence upon form runs along at a cracking pace, and to an only-too-necesssary conclusion. This is a comedy, a social commentary, and an adventure: above all, it is a love story.
