This edited volume proposes to revisit the development of recreational and professional sporting activities in the French capital between 1854 and 2024. It comprises fifteen chapters surveying the rich and multifaceted history of athletic practices in Paris, and constitutes the first comprehensive piece of scholarship exclusively dedicated to the relationship between sport, history, and culture in the City of Light. This collection articulates and emphasizes the sustained presence and impact of sports in Parisian lives for over a century and a half, at the same time as it encourages readers to think about sports as a form of cultural expression able to alter national, regional, and individual identity, in other words, as a form of entertainment able to shift our perception of leisure and spectatorship, an activity able to transform urban spaces and social norms. To this end, Sport in Paris proposes complementary perspectives, by not only addressing multiple sporting disciplines (tennis, football, boxing, etc.) but also stressing interdisciplinary approaches (history of the press, urbanism, health studies, literary geography, etc.).

The book titled Garbocracy: Towards a Great Human Collapse engages with how the accumulation and disposal of garbage in India is motivated by diverse social, cultural, political, economic, communal, caste, religious and various other factors. The disgusting experiences generated by the sight and the stink of garbage is not only physical in nature, but psychological, neurological, structural, institutional, tangible and intangible in nature. To elaborate further, on the one side the improper disposal of garbage in the public places generate varied health issues and on the other hand it impacts the social, cultural, political, and economic state of individuals and communities. With respect to these perspectives, the aim of this book is to unfold how the various socio-politically motivated patterns and intensions of disposing garbage in India, gradually convert the heaps of garbage into authoritative entities that govern the habitual thinking, behaving and acting patterns of the humans.

This volume explores the political life of rage as it has been experienced and mobilized in the Francosphere since 1968. If mai is remembered as a failure to convert insurrectionary feeling into lasting political change, the vast number of activist groups who have alchemized their anger into resistance over the past fifty years are a testament to the continued, necessary role of rage in political life. This volume traces the various morphologies of anger across French-language literature, thought, cinema and activism. From Black feminisms to punk, flamboyance to suicide, cacophonous sound to riotous song, the contributions probe the aesthetics and politics of rage. This collection also examines the uneven legitimization of political anger - how rage is allowed to be expressed, by whom and in which contexts. Rage is often dismissed as inimical to proper academic inquiry: what unites the contributions in this publication is a commitment to thinking with feeling.

In this book, thinking is presented as a game whose rules need to be understood in order to be able to play the game better. A machine can't be creative or responsible. So the more machines there are, the more thinking we'll need to do!
