This book evidences the cyclical failures of online safety policy and challenge conventional policy and educational approaches to tackling online harms, and provide a robust argument for a critical, evidence-based approaches which align with the needs of those we claim to wish to protect. It argues for a move away from knee jerk, headline grabbing and subjective policy development. In drawing parallels from the drug policy world, contrasting the increasingly progressive and evidence based policy making in this space compared to prejudiced, emotive developments in online harms.Andy Phippen is Professor of Digital Rights at Bournemouth University, UK.

This book is a curriculum that is essentially an easy-to-follow educational instruction manual. It is a ready-made simulation program that any instructor, whether they are a physician in training or in practice, can read and execute. It is designed so that an instructor can select a topic, open that chapter, and with appropriate simulation equipment and staff, run an entire simulation scenario from start to finish. Each chapter is a unique medical case that concludes with an associated scoring rubric for learners. It sets clear expectations for clinical knowledge as well as leadership and communication skills. Students can also use the scoring rubrics as self-evaluations to identify areas for improvement. Anesthesiology Simulation presents classic index cases that every anesthesiologist, general surgeon, and obstetrician/gynecologist should know how to handle. These are simulation cases that were written to be done together, with surgeons or obstetricians collaborating with anesthesiologists.

  • av Haralampos M. Moutsopoulos

This book chronicles the life and career of Haralampos M. Moutsopoulos,¿an internationally¿renowned professor of medicine and prolific researcher on Sjögren's syndrome and autoimmune rheumatic diseases. In language that is simple and direct, he takes us on a fascinating journey from his first scientific awakenings at a hospital in his native town of Ioannina, Greece, through his university years in Athens and training in the US, to his eventual return to his homeland. A major theme throughout the book, and especially in this second edition, is his impassioned struggle for excellence, meritocracy, and transparency in universities and in the National Health System in Greece. This battle is relentless, especially during critical periods such as the pandemic era, when human life was seriously threatened by the coronavirus and novel therapeutic approaches and bold administrative solutions were urgently required. Peppered with both amusing and unsettling incidents from this lifelong crusade to raise professional standards and against misconduct, the book is a must-read for anyone interested in learning about or entering the medical profession, as well as for those whose goal is to lead an adventurous, passionate life free from fear, prejudice and mediocrity.

The book presents a unique and structured interdisciplinary approach, integrating insights from medicine, computer science, bioengineering, and other relevant fields. Due to this distinctive feature, the book offers a comprehensive exploration of the intricate relationship between potential AI applications and pain research and management. For example, one of its key aims is to provide valuable knowledge about AI for clinicians who may have limited familiarity with the subject, as well as for professionals in computer science and engineering. This approach is aimed at bridging the existing gap between these fields, offering clinicians insights into AI's potential applications, and providing computer scientists and engineers with a translational perspective on the practical needs in the clinical context. As widely demonstrated, the practical application of research faces a serious obstacle related to the limited communication and collaboration between research areas that are often very distant from each other. Therefore, this dual perspective could be useful to collocate the book as a valuable tool for fostering collaboration and understanding between these traditionally distinct domains.Furthermore, the structured framework of the book could not only facilitate learning but also serve as a foundation for future projects in the realm of AI and medicine. Specifically, it will be developed by following a framework useful for additional editorial projects, focusing more acutely on AI applications in anesthesia and critical care. By doing so, the book aims to contribute to the ongoing discourse and advancements in these specialized areas, filling a gap in the current literature. Therefore, the book seeks to make a meaningful contribution to the integration of AI in pain medicine, but also in other medical fields.

The book follows on from "The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam on the Blue Nile" GERD. It will have a good background introduction on the Nile basin. The value of Nile water will be presented in view of the global water stress facing mankind and the region. International importance of Nile waters will be presented with food insecurity of regions outside the basin. Food and energy demand in the upper basin and potential upstream irrigation demand on Nile waters will be presented. Analysis of the GERD three years of filling, remaining filling years, and modes of operation will be presented along with the water conflict. Climate change and climate variation (droughts and floods) impacts on the water control of 56 percent of the Nile flow (the Blue Nile and the GERD), and ensuing water war require analysis and publication. One of the major features of the Nile is the Sudd marshes in South Sudan. The importance of wetlands in the hydroclimate of the Nile basin and the merit and demerits of draining the Sudd, to get more water on the short term, will be presented. The Everglades in the United States will be presented as a global experience in regional wetland drainage and its impact on regional hydroclimate.
