This book is about where to go and what to do in Chinäs reform. Its comprehensive overview and economic analysis of Chinäs reform offers a coverage not found in other English language text. It provides an overview of Chinäs development and reform practice, an economic analysis of Chinäs market-oriented reform and a brief introduction to the theoretical origin, practices, and defects of the planned economy. In so doing, this book demonstrates that the key to the success of Chinäs reform lies in drawing reasonable governance boundaries between government and the market and between government and society. It further discusses the basic elements required for modernizing Chinäs state governance system and conducts an analysis of Chinäs reform and development in 13 key fields. The analysis is based on three dimensions¿theoretical logic, practical knowledge, and a historical perspective. This book proposes three elements of comprehensive state governance¿inclusive economic institutions; the state capacity to plan and implement policies and laws; and an inclusive and transparent civil society with democracy, the rule of law, fairness, and justice. Its analysis also features the novel application of mechanism design theory by employing the two core ideas of information and incentives and a new research methodology consisting of ¿three dimensions and six natures¿. This book reviews and grasps Chinäs reform through a qualitative analysis of economic theories and an empirical analysis of statistics from a historical perspective spanning over 180 years. It is proposed to be an important reference for understanding the past, present, and future of Chinäs reform and teaching about the potential economic superpower. It can also serve as an essential resource for those who are interested in China's economic reform and development.

This book introduces readers to the history of design thinking in pre-modern China. The content is structured according to successive dynasties, covering the seven major periods of the pre-Qin, Qin and Han, Wei and Jin, Sui and Tang, Song and Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties.  Each chapter introduces the most representative individuals of the period and discusses their work and ideas in order to reveal the national and cultural features of the respective periods. A distinctive feature of cultural identity running through the long course of Chinäs historical development is the argument that actions are determined by ideas: Such a view can be found in long-standing thinking on art, design, and creativity. The book demonstrates that conscious design is the vital link between the ideas that constitute human cultures and the physical objects that make up their resulting material cultures. It is the attribute of design that defines what it is to be human and also produces the physical evidence of the evolution of Chinese civilization. The book reveals the integrated characteristics of Chinese culture and art and shows how both changing and recurring ideologies have influenced Chinese design practice since the ancient Shang and Zhou dynasties and how these forces have shaped the spirit and materiality of Chinese civilization. Design is the cornerstone that has made China one of the major contributors to human civilization throughout the thousands of years of its history.Given its focus, the book largely appeals to two main audiences: an academic readership of students and researchers interested in cultural studies and, a more general one, consisting of those interested in international comparisons and wishing to learn more about Chinese history, society, and culture. In order to appeal to both, the book is written in a clear and accessible language.

The book you have just opened is probably unlike anything you have ever read so far. It offers you a path to direct contact with ¿The Art of War¿, the masterpiece of Sun Tzu, a classical theorist of warfare in Ancient China. This book examines an ancient Chinese work on strategy and warfare: Sun Tzu, ¿The Art of War¿, from the perspectives of logic, mathematics, and computer science. Sun Tzüs book has been studied and translated many times before, with viewpoints from historians, military- and business strategists, philosophers, and in the context of modern computer strategy games.  This book takes a new approach to study this 2500-year-old text. It uses modern mind mapping techniques to show a new dimension that uncovers meaning and structure not easily seen before. Mind maps are semantic diagrams of related concepts: they are used in this book in a restricted form, defined as Text Tree Mind Maps. A chapter covering the theoretical side of diagramming ancient text, explains the making of the mind maps used in this book and why showing old text in this way is so useful.

This book elucidates fascinating electronic phenomena of unusual Bi2-square net in layered R2O2Bi (R: rare earth) compounds using two approaches: the fabrication of epitaxial thin films and the synthesis of bulk polycrystalline powders. The Bi2-square net compounds are a promising platform to explore exotic physical properties originating from the interplay between a two-dimensional electronic state and strong spin¿orbit coupling; however, there are few reports on Bi2-square net compounds due to the instability of unusual electronic configurations. The book presents the development of synthetic routes for R2O2Bi compounds, such as novel solid phase epitaxy techniques and chemical control of crystal structure, demonstrating the intrinsic physical properties of Bi2-square net for the first time. The most notable finding is the successful induction of two-dimensional superconductivity in Bi2-square net with the coexistence of rich electronic phases. The book also discusses the superconducting mechanisms and the effect of R cation substitution in detail and describes the mechanical properties of Bi2-square net. These findings overturn the results of previous studies of R2O2Bi. The book sheds light on hidden layered compounds, representing a significant advance in the field.

This is the first book to fully explain the changing management and business models in the current era of important new developments in knowledge and information occurring all over the world. The research and its outcomes presented here focus especially on diverse cases from emerging countries in East Asia, where local companies face similar technological change. The pandemic has seriously changed people's lives and affected the development of society as a whole, while digital technologies have become even more greatly in demand. Those are very difficult to fit into traditional management models created decades ago, however. For the successful implementation of such a transition, new paradigms, models, and technologies for the transformation of control systems are needed. To meet that need, a new paradigm to bring about innovation under the new knowledge transformation system is required. This book presents the experiences of beginning such a knowledge transformation inEast Asian countries. Despite the fact that the countries are in the same geographical region, their experiences are quite diverse, determined by cultural, historical, religious, and psychological factors. These differences appear not only in such important areas as R&D processes, but also in production, finance, HR management, and marketing. Readers will find innovative solutions for the transformation of management in the new knowledge transformation system that is the focus of this book.
