Once upon a time in a small Westchester community named Laurelville, 71-year-old David Goldstein is called out of retirement to direct and piano accompany the high school production of “Fiddler on the Roof.”A disgruntled former Laurelville High School student named Michael LaDonna, enters the auditorium during rehearsal, shooting down students left and right. To stop further carnage, an injured Goldstein crawls over to the shooter and engages him in talk. It seems the previous school theater director molested LaDonna’s sister, and he is out for revenge.Goldstein’s brave and delaying tactic gives the police time to act, and they storm the auditorium, killing the shooter. In this horrific shooting, three students and the shooter lie dead, and many others are injured.Although a novel, this story is a scary reminder of the times we live in, and what happens all too often in differing scenarios throughout the country.Gary D. Chattmanhas been a teacher all his life, primarily in public high schools in the Bronx. He has also been a principal, an academic leader, and has created a special program for teaching Bar Mitzvah and Bat Mitzvah programs for young Jewish men and women outside of Hebrew School. He is a concert pianist, a lyricist, and a composer. A grandfather of four, the love of his life is his wife Patti. This is his tenth book.

  • - A Portrait of Corsica at the End of the 18th Century
    av Nigel Patten
    290,-

By the end of the 18th century, Corsica had been occupied by France for over thirty years. Islanders yearned to recover their lost independence, and the French Revolution gave them the opportunity. Their leader, Pasquale Paoli, realized that alone they could never defeat the well-organized French forces. He offered Corsica to King George III of England, on condition that the French were driven from the island.Based on documented historical fact, the author paints a detailed portrait of Corsica through the captivating adventures of Damian Berra, a young man from what is today the Swiss canton of Valais. After wandering through Lombardy to the Ligurian coast, as the victim of a press gang on a French frigate, he becomes marooned on Corsica, an island infested with bandits and crippled with vendettas, where murders are seven times more numerous than in mainland France. The story also describes the attempts of the English to administer an island they eventually called “The Ungovernable Rock.”Nigel Patten was born near London in 1940 and has lived in Switzerland since 1961, writing and teaching English in an alpine lycée. He has published nine books, including historical novels, a biography, and a three-act play on the last weeks of the life of poet Percy Shelley, and has twice won a Reader’s Favorite Award. The author has traveled widely on all continents, driving from Switzerland to India and back. For many years he sailed his own boat in the Greek islands, and has twice climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro, as well as hiked other famous mountain trails. He has also directed and acted in numerous stage plays.

Edward’s Lost Treasure is a story of history … and mystery. It all starts in the late 1800s and takes a century to unfold. It’s about a treasure that’s been discovered, lost, and searched for. Treasure may be precious to one person, but mean nothing to another. And sometimes the search can be more interesting than what is found.Adventure means different things to different people. It can be as simple as a bored schoolboy looking for something to do while on holiday from school, or teenagers wanting a different lifestyle than the one they find so boring. Some may want change so much that they embark upon a journey that takes them to the other side of the world. This tale is about a treasure, how it was originally found, how it was lost, and how it was searched for with very little evidence that it could still be found. It’s also about the people involved with the treasure and where their search for adventure led them. For some, the search was a positive experience. For others, not so much. It all depended on the treasure seekers’ personalities, and if adventure brought them what they were truly seeking.Bronwyn Heeney grew up in a suburb of Sydney, Australia, which became part of her book, and now lives near Melbourne. She wrote this story over a period of years and the characters became real to her. This is her third book.

Praise for Terence Roberts“For artist Terence Roberts, ‘Fresh’ is the perspective.” – Linda Rutherford, editor“The celebration of the sensuous, and his championing of it as an expression of humanism and progress, has been a feature of his work. His focus is on the act and processes of creativity … There is much to hold one’s attention at different levels.” – Alim Hosein, linguist/critic, University of Guyana“What he offers (is) … an invitation to contemplate the creative genius of the artist in a surprising, non-academic, anti-Mannerist way.” – Neil Marks, television journalist“Even when deeply rooted in his native culture, his language is universal and speaks directly to our soul, our spirit, and the dancing patterns of his art vibrate in harmony with the natural rhythms that are etched in our tiniest cells and molecules.” – Jean-Francois Pulvenis de Seligny, ambassador“For Terence Roberts art is constantly evolving, and this point of view allows him to maintain a freshness and vivacity to his endeavors; his works speak to the emotions quietly … he succeeds like nobody’s business, and we are all the richer for it.” – Rashid Osman, senior editor

Just how difficult is it to attract love and companionship after a woman reaches a certain age?The Widow and the Ring Dance is a romantic novel and an ironic portrait of a recent widow named Juliette, an American and long-time resident of Norway. She''s in a huge rush to find a new life''s partner before her good looks fade, and her age, 53, causes her to appear undesirable to suitors. To demonstrate her viewpoint of how difficult it can be to find love in middle age, she quotes from R.F. Delderfield''s novel, God Is An Englishman:"A man, even a fool of a man, could make any number of attempts to track down happiness, addressing himself to the task until he was old and senile, but a woman had so little time at her disposal, and time for her was running out ..."After a few feeble attempts at internet dating, the incurably romantic Juliette places a personals advertisement in a newspaper column designed for someone in Juliette''s position. Although she''s nervous about taking such a chance, Norway seems a safe place to take the gamble.Juliette is more attractive than she thinks, and in her lifetime has found love easily, but she has never been a middle-aged widow before! Will she meet Mr. Right?Patricia Bjornstad is a retired teacher of English, history, and drama. The Last Time I Saw San Francisco: And Other Stories follows the author’s adventures of gay erotica at different sites around the world. From the book’s Introduction:“My near namesake – William Jennings Bryan – has written a typical story In His Image, which speaks of 2000-plus years of common knowledge. (‘BC’ means, by the way, ‘Before Common Knowledge’) … But mine is a story that goes back hundreds if not thousands of years. It is the story of an intrinsic beauty represented in centuries of stone carving – the beauty of the male form.“In the museum of antiquities in Athens, Greece, there is row upon row of ancient attempts at casting this divine image in stone. There is an entire room of kouros, the early attempts of sculpting this image – it is like entering the shower room of modern-day football athletes.”About the Author: Born in Florida, William Joseph Bryan has experienced a good portion of the 20th century. Pre-Stonewall riot, saw him as Brian Jennings, presenting the 1964 concert “Music: The Hermaphroditic Art” for the One Institute. Under this pseudonym, various articles and photos appeared in early editions of The Advocate, including two cover photo stories. Bryan is emeritus professor of music at Foothill College, Los Altos, California. This is his fifth book. Others include a photo essay interpreting verses from Leaves of Grass, titled “Walt Whitman Today.” His erotic memoir is The Moment to Remember.

  • - The Book of Fats
    av Barton McGuire
    246,-

Fats' mother names him Ian Wendell Thomas at birth, something his friends correct in early childhood. A true connoisseur of the finer things (women, beer, music, food, general self-indulgence, women), Fats leaves school behind as soon as possible and devotes his time to, well, the finer things. The central California coast of the aimless 1970s is the perfect place for such devotions. His friends (who call themselves the Holy League of Rudy) invoke the dying spirit of '60s activism by daring to deface the grotesque new downtown mall, delaying its bicentennial grand opening and costing its owners millions. Not long after the mall raid, Fats falls for and marries Amanda, achingly beautiful heiress to the largest family-owned vineyards in California. Nothing is ever simple, however. Amanda's father, unaware of Fats' past crimes, is also the primary investor in the afore-mentioned mall, and a man whose dangerous displeasure only a fool would willingly invite. When the marriage goes south, Fats finds himself on the Z-list of the brutal neighborhood mafia, forcing the Holy League to fight back with the most vicious weapon at their disposal: unrelenting, irresistible mirth.Barton McGuire lives in the coastal northwest with his beautiful wife, his brilliant son, and his dog. This is his second book about the Holy League of Rudy. The Holy League of Rudy: The Book of Bones was published in 2013.

This is my first book and my last!”Breaking FreeCame an exotic bird to my quiet bowerAsked: Is there anywhere you’d rather be?You could see birds of paradise, rare flowersOr explore coral reefs beneath the sea.I’ll fly you anywhere … say MandalayOr sail around the timeless isles of GreeceRevel in the excitement of BombayOr in Tibet find spiritual peace. So! All the world to choose from – how surreal!Kaleidoscopic, spins your head round. • av Gerald a Moriarty
    196,-

Born against the backdrop of the majestic Cascade Mountains in Washington State, Gerald A. Moriarty wrote his Western Vanishing Anger to express “my love for the mountains and my fascination for those during the mid-1800s who were mountain men.”Though the author’s primary interest is in following the adventures of the Wild West’s mountain men, he heads off in a totally new direction, writing his Western tales. Moriarty has experienced the bite of gold fever himself, and his next two books will express that side of his life.In this novel, an angry man tired of all the fighting needed to defend himself back home on the docks, heads West seeking a new life. His transformation from an angry man to one who finds peace takes place as he finds adventure and self-reliance on his travels. The former longshoreman becomes a gold prospector and a frontiersman who meets up with thieves and scammers. Now retired, Gerald A. Moriarty was born and raised on a farm outside the small town of Enumclaw, Washington. “The absolute beauty of all the surrounding mountains” inspired him to both write and to create beadwork jewelry that he sells at bazaars.
