Phyllis Seckler (1917-2004) was introduced to the teachings of Aleister Crowley in the late 1930s and became a regular participant in the activities of Agape Lodge of the Ordo Templi Orientis in California, and rose to become a Ninth Degree member of the "Sovereign Sanctuary of the Gnosis." She was admitted to the A.'. A.'. under the tutelage of Jane Wolfe, eventually taking the now well-known magical name Soror Meral and was later confirmed as an Adeptus Minor by Crowley's successor, Karl Germer. Seckler was a key figure in the reinauguration of the O.T.O. in 1969, and a few years later she founded the College of Thelema, with the intention that it would provide important background training and education for aspirants to the A.'. A.'. Seckler played a crucial role in the history of Thelema, not only through her efforts to explore and revive Crowley's creed, but also by training a new generation of its students. Her legacy continues under the auspices of the Temple of the Silver Star, the magical organization she chartered shortly before her death, which serves as the repository of her literary estate, library and archives.The Thoth Tarot, Astrology & Other Selected Writings, is edited by three of Phyllis Seckler's former students: David Shoemaker, Gregory Peters, and Rorac Johnson. It includes a biographical sketch of Phyllis Seckler drawn from her own autobiographical writings, and two of her most important essays: "The Tarot Trumps of Thoth and Psychology" - a detailed analysis of the psychological and magical symbolism of the Trumps of the Thoth deck - and "Thoth Tarot and Astrology," a significant study of astrology and the natal chart, with special reference to the cards of the Thoth deck. Both of these essays were previously serialized in Seckler's journal In the Continuum, but they are here presented for the first time in book form, accompanied by redrawn and corrected diagrams. In addition to the essays the book also contains a selection of important correspondence between Seckler, Aleister Crowley, Karl Germer and Jane Wolfe. These are followed by a transcript of the last major interview conducted with Phyllis Seckler, in which she recounted the details of her introduction to Thelema and involvement with the old Agape Lodge, her subsequent participation in various Thelemic organizations, and her thoughts on developments within the Thelemic world.

The Kabbalah, Magick, and Thelema is the second volume of writings by Phyllis Seckler to be published by the Temple of the Silver Star. Like the previous volume, The Thoth Tarot, Astrology, & Other Selected Writings, the work is edited and introduced by three of Seckler's former students: Rorac Johnson, Gregory Peters, and David Shoemaker. The present volume also includes a short Foreword by another erstwhile student of Seckler's, Lon Milo DuQuette, in which he reflects fondly on his teacher, and recounts with humor the trepidation that he felt prior to his first meeting with the seemingly mysterious "Soror Meral."In common with her own distant mentor, Aleister Crowley, Soror Meral found short, pithy essays, written in the form of "letters," to be an excellent and powerful teaching method. The main body of The Kabbalah, Magick, and Thelema comprises a series of these letters, which explore a wide range of topics from Kabbalah and the practice of ritual magick, through philosophical speculations, to commentary on the state of Thelemic culture at the time. Originally published in Seckler's journal In the Continuum, they are here presented for the first time in book form, accompanied by redrawn and corrected diagrams. They give strong testament to her passionate determination to preserve and spread the ideas of Aleister Crowley and the principles of Thelema.The final section of the book contains a number of important letters between Seckler and other significant figures in the history of post-Crowleyan Thelema, including Karl Germer, Israel Regardie, Grady McMurtry, Gerald Yorke, and Marcelo Motta. These letters, which cover matters as diverse as the leadership succession of O.T.O. and the thefts of Karl Germer's library, are published here for the first time. They are accompanied by a number of related photographs, the majority of which have not been previously published.

Phyllis Seckler (aka Soror Meral, 1917-2004) was one of the most important 20th century teachers of Thelema-the philosophy and system of spiritual attainment developed by Aleister Crowley. While Seckler left behind many seminal writings on Thelema, astrology, Qabalah, Tarot, ceremonial magick, and mysticism, her poetry provides one of the most personal and intimate views into her spiritual mindset. The poems collected here span fifty years of her working life as a poet and teacher, primarily focusing on the overtly mystical themes of her spiritual path. Yet they occasionally touch on more secular topics as well, such as her marriage to Grady McMurtry and her yearning for human love. Karl Germer (1885-1962) was Aleister Crowley's successor as head of the magical order A.'.A.'. and Outer Head of Ordo Templi Orientis. His legacy, however, is mostly known through the work of his students and confidantes. Little has been published about the life, teachings, and spiritual experiences of this most dedicated Thelemite. In an effort to shed some light upon Germer's life's work, the Temple of the Silver Star now makes available this selection from a lifetime of correspondence.Selected Letters 1928-1962 includes letters exchanged between Karl Germer and such Thelemic luminaries as Jane Wolfe, Phyllis Seckler, Jack Parsons, Wilfred Talbot Smith, and others. A fascinating look into the training undertaken by Jane Wolfe, a student of Aleister Crowley, at the Abbey of Thelema in Cefalu, Sicily. This book collects the bulk of Wolfe's surviving diary entries from Cefalu, most of which were typed, complete with handwritten commentary from Crowley on many pages.
