This book was created to help fill a void in the preparation and cooking of wild game. I got very tired of eating the same old thing every hunting season and when eating at someone else's home. Many cookbooks only have maybe one or two recipes on venison, and nothing on many of the other critters that scurry about in the forest. After all our forefathers ate them, why not us too?

The DeWitt genealogy is a fascinating study of 26 generations of the family from 1293 to the present. This work is the collaboration of descendants of the three children of Leucas, ninth child of Tierck Clafsen DeWitt. American Ambassador Lester DeWitt Ballor of UEL descent obtained a copy from The Royal Library of the Hague of Beschayving DerStad Dordrecht by Mattys Balen, Jans Zoon published in 1677. This information provided the first thirteen generations in Holland. He also received a 32-page copy of a lawsuit in 1684 by Jan DeWitt on behalf of his brother Tierck for rent owned by Pieter Janz, their sister Faelde's husband. The property was land inherited by Tierck from his father Nicholaas. It provided information on her mother Taetje Cornelisz, her father, brothers and their shipyard.

For many millenia the gods have been playing their game. With the humanoids as their ponds the great chess match between the seven children of the creator ignored their mother's hints at her dissatisfactions. They continued to move forward as they believed only in themselves. Mother Gia could see it spiraling out of control. Then, when the blood of an Ancient One was spilled, she became boiled in rage. A rage that moved her to react like they had never seen before. The "Game of the Gods" was about to change. Seven perfect game pieces were created. Seven humanoids made to represent the gods in a final show down, and Mother Gia watching in the shadows, refereeing the match as she trembled to see what advantage she could use to bring balance back to the universe! A balance that if not met, could destroy the very fabric of time and space. An ultimate dictate that Mother Gia would achieve. If not, she was ready to start over. She even was considering the elimination of her children, as well as, the entire universe. The mortals' very existence rested with these seven game pieces, as well!

Twelve Days of Christmas is all about very vivid memories and the emotions they evoke. The first five "days" (i.e. chapters) recount traumatic experiences from early childhood: first awareness of terror, rage, remorse, disbelief, rejection, embarrassment. The remaining chapters continue the theme but with an adult perspective - and elation is included among the emotions experienced.

Northwest waters off Oregon and Washington pose unique dangers to boaters. All of the navigable bars that a boater must cross to reach the ocean, such as the Tillamook Bay Bar, the Columbia River and Depoe Bay are hazardous. When a boat is in danger or actually sinks, the Coast Guard comes to the rescue. Search and rescue itself poses hazards, often times compounded by delayed or inaccurate distress calls from the captain. In addition the captain may fail to provide timely communication and leadership to crew and passengers during the crises. This book reviews the sinking of five charter boats. Four of them, the Pearl-C, Cougar, Gambler, and the Taki-Tooo accounted for the greatest loss of life in the charter boat industry in Oregon and Washington. Survivors of these charter boats provide vivid and dramatic accounts of the sinkings and search and rescue. We also review the sinking with the loss of life of the Aleutian Enterprise in the Bering Sea, crab boats off the Oregon and Washington coast, as well as the loss of the Sea King during a storm as it was being towed across the Columbia River bar. We focus on the human element in decision making during emergencies at sea, and provide guidelines for boaters to consider their own experiences at sea with respect to safety. An understanding of the hazards on our Northwest waters are important to recreational boaters who go on their private boats to fish off shore.
