Neuro-Ed Assessment and Screeners are fast and effective assessment forms for busy mental health and educational professionals. These practical assessments were created by practitioners who know the needs of professionals working in the field. The purpose of these assessments is to evaluate school-aged students for various disorders and difficulties as quickly and accurately as possible. These screeners provide a 360- degree view of a student's problem by utilizing parent, staff, and student rating forms. Professionals can choose individual 'one-page' screeners for the most common disorders such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, executive function, autism, learning disabilities, processing speed, memory and social / emotional learning problems in less than five minutes per form.REVIEWS and WORDS OF PRAISEThe Neuro-Ed rating scales give educators the opportunity to quickly identify student difficulties in the areas of anxiety, depression, social skills, and attention. This guide began as a manual for family medicine residents. Over time it evolved into a fairly complete coverage of most of the outpatient issues seen in their training. In response to their urging, I set out on the journey to convert the manual into the manuscript for this book. The book is intended for primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants. It serves three purposes: (1) as a quick reference for primary care providers to use in the clinic when seeing patients, (2) as a textbook, and (3) as a study guide for Board examinations. It covers a great number of topics briefly to allow quick reading. To allow fast access, the chapters are arranged in alphabetical order beginning with Chapter 1: Allergy and ending with Chapter 27: Women's Health. Topics within chapters also are arranged in alphabetical order, again to allow quick access.

This is the first book covering the entire timeline as well as the actors and factors driving international terrorism in each phase of its development. It provides an historical journey across the terrorist landscape and offers insights and analyses of the successive challenges that terrorists have posed. The narrative shifts from the Assassins of medieval times to the nihilists of Tsarist Russia to the left-wing, Marxist-oriented terrorist organizations of the Cold War era to the more recent Islamist-based groups, including their respective supporters and enablers--the Palestinians, Russia and the Soviet bloc, and Iran. More than 20 years have elapsed since the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. A new generation has grown up with little or no knowledge of these horrific events and the warning signs that preceded them. Moreover, the Covid-19 pandemic, unprecedented political polarization, the growing focus on climate change and social justice and, most recently, the war in Ukraine have relegated the threat of terrorism to the back burner of U.S. national priorities. But Americans must remain vigilant for danger signs that could portend a new terrorist strike. A valuable resource for both specialists and general readers, The Scourge of Terrorism also posits that counterterrorism in the post-9/11 and post-Afghanistan era requires new strategies to supplant the primarily military approach of the past.

This empirical and theoretical book should be of interest to anyone who dares to consider the contentious topic of measuring and justifying aesthetic value in music, as well as the issue of how experts compare to nonexperts in terms of aesthetic fluency, aesthetic sensitivity and aesthetic judgment in appraising music. The book should be both practical and personal for anyone who has a music collection and loves to see it grow continuously but wisely. What makes someone an expert? The key issue I tackle is how one develops into such a connoisseur of music. Overall, the book should spark much healthy debate about music quality and aesthetics in general, both among scholars of aesthetics and the musically passionate general public. Many of the ideas for connoisseur development for music could also be applied to appraisal in other areas of aesthetics beyond music, such as films, visual art, or literature.

This book provides a description of the current theory and methodology of LEGO-based therapy (LBT) for social development. It is intended for all readers who have an interest in LBT and both how and why it works to improve the development of social communication and interpersonal collaboration. This work provides an update from previous publications on LBT methods and offers the first in-depth discussion of the theoretical basis for the LBT model. Educators, therapists, parents, and administrators will gain a clearer understanding of how LBT can be used to improve social adjustment and initiate participation in social learning, creativity, and interpersonal synergy. Regardless of the context in which LEGO materials are used to facilitate improvement in interpersonal communication and collaboration, this book is a core text, describing the current strategies and benefits of LBT.

This book closely examines our commonly held beliefs about human suffering, and offers unique insights into God's role in why we suffer. Dr. Perri critically examines what it means to be human from a Judeo-Christian perspective, and extrapolates from the work of Carl Gustav Jung showing a deeply complex development of human transcendence in human suffering. On an interpersonal level, Dr. Perri elaborates on the work of Martin Buber and Emanuel Levinas and shows how our suffering can be shared and lessened by our unconditionality and presence for the other. Scriptural passages are quoted from both the Hebrew and New Testament texts, and are used to depict the suffering of humankind as seen in the face of Job. It was this face, according to Perri, that Jesus saw in the faces of those He came to redeem, and that ultimately brought Him to the crucifix of redemption. Dr. Perri challenges Sartre's position that our existence precedes our essence, and draws on the work of Abraham Joshua Heschel and Christian theology in this regard. He further elaborates a neurodevelopmental paradigm that creates essence as the basis of our freedom to choose. This book can be read and studied by both professionals in the helping and healing professions, and lay persons seeking to better understand our suffering, and how to better help those who suffer. Dr. Perri offers specific ways in how to be present for those who suffer, how to read and receive the hidden language of human suffering, and how to use silence as a communication skill.

A lightning rod for powerful emotions, Thomas Schippers began his escalation to fame at nineteen continuing with performances in many renowned venues in the world. Here his career is traced through the accounts of those who knew or performed with him, redressing the astonishing lack of information about him which could be of interest to music historians and performers of today. "The brilliant young conductor, Thomas Schippers, is tall, with the face and body of a Greek god at a time when Greek gods are hard to find." (Life magazine, December 6, 1963). Admired by many for his classic handsomeness, he was highly praised for his musicianship and for the ease with which he conducted complex scores, often by memory. But following his untimely death at the age of forty-seven, he was rapidly forgotten. He was Leonard Bernstein's assistant touring Iron Curtain Russia with the New York Philharmonic. He made a large contribution to American cultural life by championing the composers Barber, Rorem, Copland, and Proto and premiered a number of their works in addition to those of Menotti. Schippers was a brilliant conductor of the symphonic repertoire but he had a special gift for opera, with his extraordinary ear for the human voice. Justino Diaz, Jane Marsh, Roberta Peters, Leonard Warren, Martina Arroyo, Leontyne Price, Tito Del Bianco, and numerous other celebrated singers of his time all sang under his baton. He conducted Maria Callas in Cherubini's Medea which was her last performance at La Scala. The opening of the new Metropolitan Opera House in 1966 was under his direction.

This book was written to help college students understand physics without complicated math. Each year thousands of college students pursuing business and humanities degrees find themselves taking a course in introductory physics. But many will have serious trouble solving physics problems because they do not have enough experience using mathematical equations. Understanding physics is challenging without a strong math background, but not impossible. Unlike other introductions to physics, this book explains the basic concepts in classical mechanics with a minimal amount mathematical expressions so new students can spend their time learning physics, not math. The result is not only a better understanding of physics, but possibly a better grade. This study guide covers the three aspects of classical mechanics: basics of motion, rules for gravitational interaction among two or more objects, and rotational motion. The bottom line is that this book was written to help students better understand the mathematical parts of undergraduate classical mechanics so they can concentrate on learning physics, not math.

In this unique new book, The Heart of Drawing, 59 artists from 22 countries exhibit their art and talk about their process of creation to inspire readers and help them find inspiration for their own creative efforts. The book is about what happens during the creation of a drawing, NOT just about the final result. Drawing is described as an act of cognition that can help you develop eye-brain-hand coordination, conceptualize and analyze ideas, think creatively, and express yourself and communicate with others. It's about Drawing to Learn, which is the main focus of the book. The words and images you see express a journey, and the artists are exploring their internal and external realities with shape, line and value. The book promotes gestural or expressive drawing, not necessarily a perfect finished work. Because of this, many of the drawings show restated lines, drawn over erasures and other tentative marks and "draw overs" showing the process of creation. They are not all flawless finished pieces. Though from many countries and with various backgrounds, most of the artists say they began drawing at an early age. And most had someone in their lives encouraging them to create. What most have in common is their gestural and exploratory approach to drawing. Some describe entering a meditative state while drawing when nothing matters except putting marks on a surface. Such drawing is sometimes a felt bodily experience more than an intellectual one. For example, one artist notes "I keep a journal of my thoughts, a kind of reservoir for fleeting feelings and impressions where, like a primordial soup, ideas congeal and give birth to strange creatures that crawl onto the shore, discover wings, and take flight." What's best about The Heart of Drawing is the drawings themselves. How these artists create is as diverse as humanity itself and the whole collection will give aspiring artists ideas for their own creative efforts.
