There has been an explosion of publishing in the faith-work movement in the last twenty years. Work is increasingly seen as the new frontier for Christian mission. However, the church and theological colleges have failed to keep up with the interest among, and needs of, workplace Christians. This book is the urgent corrective that is needed, moving past Theology of Work 101 to much deeper encounters with God's word as it relates to daily work. These twelve academic papers look at work through three different lenses: the workplace, the church, and theological education. It is prefaced by Mark Greene from the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity, reflecting on what work, church, and theological education would look like if there was no sacred-secular divide. In the concluding remarks, the editors imagine a future where each domain is transformed by the gospel, working dynamically together for the life of the world. While academic in terms of depth of thinking, quality of research, and referencing of crucial sources for further exploration, this book is never dry. Rather, it's life-giving and provocative for every vocation, asking fundamental questions of the reader: What is the work that God is calling you to do? How can the gospel transform your work? And how well-positioned are churches and colleges to be at the forefront of transforming vocation? With contributions from:Mark GreeneJames PietschPeter WhitePeter DochertyGordon PreeceKeith MitchellDavid FaggIan HusseyColin NobleAndrew MatthewsSarah BacallerSamuel CurkpatrickMaggie Kappelhoff

An original international collaboration, To Stake a Claim researches the relationship between what counted for ""knowledge"" in the West, how this knowledge has changed over the years, and how those changes related to the mission of the church as an evangelizer within Western culture.Examining four key areas of study, To Stake a Claim evaluates the dominant positions in contemporary philosophy regarding truth, rationality, and pluralism. It first analyzes consequences for humanity that holding these positions implies. Next, it looks at faith, religion, and revelation in the context of the dominant positions of contemporary philosophy discussed in the first part. The third part explores the dominant positions of contemporary theology. Finally, it summarizes the epistemological problems involved in the process of communicating the gospel within Western culture and evaluates the theological and missiological views of this communication.

Moral Problems in Higher Education brings together key essays that explore ethical issues in academia. The editor and contributors - all noted philosophers and educators - consider such topics as academic freedom and tenure, free speech on campus, sexual harassment, preferential student admissions, affirmative action in faculty appointments, and the ideal of a politically neutral university. Chapters address possible restrictions on research because of moral concerns, the structure of peer review, telling the truth to colleagues and students, and concerns raised by intercollegiate athletics.Cahn selects two key readings in each are to offer a readable introductory guide to these critical subjects for students studying academic ethics and higher education policy. In addition to the selections and a general introduction, Cahn provides study questions for use in the classroom.
