  • - Heinrich Dirks (1842-1915) Missionary on Sumatra
    av Hermann Heidebrecht
    350,-

<p>In November 1869 the ship <i>Electra</i> sails from Amsterdam. On board is a young missionary Heinrich Dirks, together with his wife Aganetha, who are supposed to begin a new missionary work on the distant island of Sumatra. In the southern part of Batak territory, where Islam is advancing rapidly, their task is to found a new mission station and preach the Gospel. Most of the Batak are still heathen. They worship the spirits of the dead (<i>begus</i>), and are considered to be one of the last cannibalistic tribes in the world. A number of them have turned to Islam. There is not a single Christian in southern Batak-Land.</p> <p>The passengers on the ship are very surprised at the plans of the young missionary. Most do not see any sense in doing missionary work among the native people and declare his task to be an impossible vision. "They should send more cannon and soldiers there and not such harmless missionaries," says an older gentleman. Another one observes: "The savages cannot help being the way they are, but to change them is impossible."</p> <p>Will the young missionary succeed in reaching the distant island? Will any indigenous person become a Christian?</p>   <p>A true story that challenges and encourages us to dare the seemingly impossible for God.</p>

  • - A Biblical View
    av Michael Scantlebury
    246,-

This book you are holding was being prepped for release at the end of 2019, but the Spirit of the Lord interrupted my plans and asked me to hold off for the time being. After discussing this leading with other men of God whose opinions I value, I decided to postpone its publication. Fast-forward with me five months to one morning when the Holy Spirit woke me in the early hours. "Do you remember the day I asked you to pause your work on the book?" He continued, "What is happening now-the Coronavirus pandemic-this is why I had you delay it." At the time, when I was first writing, the chaos of COVID-19 did not exist, or at least, it was not yet made public. But the resulting global lockdown has had many Believers, and even the unsaved, asking if this is the end of the world! The spirit of fear and dread has gripped the hearts of so many; the Lord said to me: "NOW is the time to release this book!!!" Imagine you are a time traveler who has traveled back to the 1800s. You meet Abraham Lincoln and reveal to him that you have arrived from the 21st century. He might ask you how people send messages in the 21st century; you could try to explain how the email system works. How would you describe it? You're trying to communicate how "fast" an email really is delivered; but you're trying to do it in a way that wouldn't totally blow his mind. Would you use imagery with which he's familiar? Perhaps you would tell him it's like a postman riding his horse at 500 miles per hour. Or, you might liken it to delivering a message by train from New York to LA in less than one day. That's the conundrum we face when trying to understand difficult verses in the Bible, especially on themes like eschatology. The prophetic writers of Scripture were limited to conveying God's mysteries in language their readers would understand. Two to three thousand years later as we read these prophetic Scriptures through a 21st century lens, it is possible to come up with strange, speculative interpretations. This especially happens when we don't understand what those Scriptures would have meant to a first century Believer, or to a Jew living in the time of the Old Testament Prophets. The book before you delves deeper into this topic and much more, as it presents you with a biblical view of eschatology.

  • - A Memoir
    av Hedy R Wiebe
    190,-

<p><i>One moment in time can change the course of our whole lives.</i></p><p>On July 31, 1999, life as she knew it stopped for Hedy Wiebe. While she and a friend were driving on a Manitoba highway, a van ran a stop sign, and they hit the passenger side of the van head-on with enough force to send them rolling.</p> <p>Sitting in the passenger seat, Hedy suffered extreme trauma to both her body and her mind. Her injuries included broken ribs and ankles, abdominal trauma, tendon and muscle injuries. Add a closed head injury and it would take years of rehabilitation before she could truly begin to heal.</p><p>Throughout the trauma, God’s presence and the blessing of ministering angels kept Hedy’s spirit alert and vibrant. Dealing with the pain, the frustration, and the discouragement gave her a new understanding of Christ being courage deep in our hearts. </p><p><i>There’s a Place Deep inside Called Courage</i> will inspire readers in all seasons of life to seek God’s healing touch and to trust Him completely to meet every need. It is a testimony of faith to the glory of God.</p>

  • - A Historical Novel
    av Barrie Doyle
    236,-

<p>Staring debtor’s prison in the eye, George Frederik Handel is depressed and suffering from various illnesses. Faced with crushing verbal, intellectual, financial, and even physical opposition, he can go no longer. Adding to his woes, he’s a pawn in the vicious political and cultural dispute between King George II and his son Frederick, Prince of Wales.</p><p>Two encounters change everything—and alter music forever. Rejuvenated by a strange, revolutionary text for an oratorio and an invitation to Dublin, Handel throws himself into the new work, Messiah, completing it in only twenty-four days. </p><p>Vicious opponents still seek to destroy him and drive him out. Some in the church even rise to prevent Messiah from seeing the light of day, objecting to his decisions to hire a disgraced singer and perform in a secular location with secular performers.</p> <p>These struggles to present Messiah mirror his own internal battles to understand, and eventually, revolutionize, his own beliefs. Through it all, Handel realizes that the music and the story it portrays is bigger than him, bigger than any performance, bigger even than the King.</p><p>This novel showcases a superb sweep through the creation of the magnificent Messiah and the fascinating characters, real and fictional, who influenced the story.</p>
