  • av Malcolm Rothwell
    291

This is a compelling autobiography which draws you in from the very first page. The catch is that some of the details are factual, whilst others are pure fiction. The author, Malcolm Rothwell, is selected and trained for a secret mission in war torn Germany. Having completed his mission he, and his accomplices, have to plan a means of escape. There is plenty of cloak and dagger and, indeed, Malcolm and his friends are captured and imprisoned. The story is interspersed with thoughtful reflections on the joys and challenges of the Christian faith. A femme fatale is also involved. This is an intimate and resonant historical drama.

The concepts of nutrition encompass two kinds of knowledge and ability. The first one is a knowledge and understanding of the individual nutrients that we need as human beings to work, learn, socialize, and exercise at our best. We need to understand what they are, what they do, and what happens if we do not have these nutrients. The second one is the ability to use these nutrients together to understand which foods they come from and what to do with these foods so that we get all the nutrients we need in the amounts that we need them. This program looks at nutrition from a holistic point of view that it not only gives facts about the nutrients we need but also looks at what to do with our newfound knowledge and understanding.

"HOW DID THIS GET HERE?" This fashionable question made famous in the late eighties was the sole reins for me to start the compilation of poems in this book. I have no idea 'HOW' this got here ... but once it was 'HERE' ... I was determined to make it ... at least ... memorable. There's a little back story to this compendium or my involvement in poetry. Frankly, I'm not truly a fan. Until very recently these flypaper words were just doodles and scribbles on torn paper and tatted notebooks, until a friend read one or two and remarked rather innocuously, if I had any others and wouldn't it be nice if there was a collection of them in one place.Well I have taken her advice and made sort of an anthology of them. They are from different periods of my life, so I hope you will please bear with me. What I knew as a young man, like most things I didn't understand until I was well into my forties. What are the odds of actually writing scribbles and then be fortunate to compile them and have them published? Well this is a chance for my words to have a mouthpiece. Meaning one of you out there. There's nothing better than being part of the echo of that nameless but great representative.

How can I summarize these poems except to say they represent my innermost thoughts and feelings-an exposure of my soul, if you will. They demonstrate the pain of past years, but suffice to say, that pain also allowed me to develop a sturdiness and doggedness that has served me well. Although it may not be evident, I more than survived and found contentment.I want to tell you that you can too!

  • - A New Springtime for the Preferential Option for the Poor/Vulnerable?
    av Michel Simo Temgo Scj
    297

Since its first use in the 1960s, the term 'Preferential option for the poor' has never stopped stirring up debates. This book examines its use in theology today. It turns to two contemporary Jesuits: Jon Sobrino (Liberation theologian) and Pope Francis (Representative of the theology of the people). From the comparative analysis of their understanding of the expression and considering new forms of human suffering as well as the sufferings of all of creation nowadays, this book suggests that the 'preferential option for the poor' should be replaced in theology today by 'compassion for the vulnerable'.

Ever thought of transforming depression into an ambition? I took that bold step towards the burning issue of the society without evaluating the outcome. This book is about personal encounter towards an unforeseen affair while dealing with trading market, has completely reshaped my life. The irony was, fell for a stranger whom I never met or had a glimps, just spoke. Isn't that bizarre? Reminds me about the perfect phrase "Love is blind". Moreover, the realization of people dealing with depression became stronger when confronted with one myself. Hence took fearless move to reach out to the wider world. However, did ponder about the embarrassing and humiliating state it will put me through. Plenty of question has evolved, daunting my decision and warning regarding the aftermath. Ultimately stood my ground to open up and leave the decision on the readers. Not expecting any empathy but surely appreciation to take such a radical step.

I've been to hell and back, I've dragged hell to it's deepest darkest nightmares to the point of it saying your not welcome here. I don't want you to pick this book up for the sake of it. I want you to pick it up and take it home with you only if you will pay attention. I didn't bring up all of my traumas and nightmares for nothing. I have done so only to help people who have been and who currently are in the places and situations I've horribly found myself in. Welcome to my World of Autism, Welcome to my struggles with ADHD (Attention Deficit HyperActivity Disorder.) See how Bipolar affects me, look into the effects Depression and Anxiety have on the human mind. All of this might well seem like a lot, but really it's not. But above all remember this was done to try and let people know that life is in fact a bitch of a struggle. Not only that, but to make people aware that you can get through life's struggles in the very world we live in.

Parkinson's disease is a debilitating, degenerative, life-changing condition with no cure.Poetry is a powerful tool for people to express their deepest emotions. This is particularly good for people with disabilities who may not have any other way of expressing themselves. It can be a great release to let out all their pent-up feelings. The poems in this book will take you on a journey into the physical and emotional challenges faced by people struggling to come to terms with this terrible illness, starting from the day they are first diagnosed. Some of the poems are a bit more lighthearted to show that we are not just defined by our condition. The aim of this book is to give a better understanding and awareness of the many facets of this complex condition and the struggles faced on a daily basis by all those affected. In the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, when the debate about same-sex marriage was active and leading to legislation, my wife and I followed the news avidly but with only one thought-same-sex marriage is wrong. As Christians, we believed in our marriage in church and in the vows taken. We could accept differences, and to us, the acts of civil union seemed to give same-sex couples an identity and a protection from abuse, which they were entitled to. When these acts were passed, it was not enough. Laws were passed to allow same-sex marriage, which to us, compounded the position. The element of same-sex couples denying their sexuality by contriving to become parents by utilizing, in some way, the services of the opposite sex seemed totally against the law of nature and the very sexuality that gays and lesbians had wanted legalized in the first place.Laws may be passed, but it does not mean that Christians and churches have to accept these laws as being scriptural and Christian. There is nothing in the Bible that supports same-sex marriage, yet general assemblies of denominations have approved same-sex marriage-often without the approval of individual congregations. This cannot be right in principle or practice.Sadly, my wife died in September 2015, but our united stance continues.

The book explores how the political, economic, social policies of the government from the time of independence from the British government in 1980 have led to economic collapse. It highlights how corruption has resulted in the gap between the rich and the poor widening while, at the same time, there was a lot of disruption in the lives of ordinary people which saw them moving to different countries because of the dismal conditions that were a result of the corruption. It also touches on the issue of human trafficking and disregard of proper environmental practices that have led to ecological disasters and encouraged the outbreak of diseases such as cholera in certain areas.
