Aphrodite Fever Dream

- Poetry & a short story

Om Aphrodite Fever Dream

These poems are rituals, taking the form of fragmented psalms, dreams, letters and even prayers for the primordial storm of the wild feminine. Katie explores the liminal space between the body of the earth as a primal entity in relation to the body as self in nature. Eco-poetry meets erotic and melancholic magical realism. Aphrodite for centuries has been trivialised as only the goddess of love and desire. Yet in ancient scriptures she is described as a mother goddess and even a deity of war. She is the Greek variant of Inanna and Isis- both exceedingly powerful feminine archetypes from the ancient world. Aphrodite oozes the long forgotten rhythms of nature, the chaos, the sensualities, the tragedies, and the magick of womanhood. Aphrodite, born of the sea, walks the earth and governs the heavens as the bright light we know today as Venus. As the Morning Star she governs the earthly pleasures of Taurus and as the Evening Star she governs the silky and poetic dusky intellect of Libra. These poems explore and exalt her energy in every fruit, animal, word, emotion and flesh.Katie pours dream-like lyricism into a reimagining of ancient hymns as though channelled by Sappho herself. Attempting to retrieve a silenced female voice from the depth of the earth, speaking of nature with reverence and passion. Katie's poems and short story dwell within the tender, shifting borderland between languages, and between poetic forms, to examine the shape and texture of memories, of myths, of love and what it is to be a woman. Abundant with multiplicities, these poems find lush, distinctive pleasure in sensory nourishment in dreamy disorientating eroticism, executed with painterly strokes of the wild complex geography of the ancient feminine coursing through our earth and women's hearts today.
