Om Early Quaker Records of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Volume 1
In 1772 the Northern and Southern District Monthly Meetings were established. This volume includes dates of births and marriages, and, unusual for Quakers, the records of deaths and burials have been preserved here. The marriage certificates have been abstracted giving names of bride, groom, frequently the parents, and residences. The minutes of the men's meetings show arrivals and departures of families, violation of discipline, intentions to marry, and disputes. Sometimes the minutes give clues to marriages not recorded in the marriage certificates. Sections include: Births and Deaths, 1688-1750; Deaths and Burials, 1687-1750; Marriage Certificates, 1672-1750 and Miscellaneous (1682-1750); Certificates Received, 1686-1750 and Miscellaneous (1698-1750); and, Minutes, Men's, 1682-1750. A full-name index adds to the value of this work.
