Om Explore South Dakota's Many, Many, Attractions

UPDATED JULY 2021 - My visit to South Dakota was to see Mt. Rushmore and Wounded Knee, and not much more for I did not think that there was much more to see. South Dakota quickly proved me incorrect. OVERVIEW This e-book has a chapter on each including chapters on casinos, gold mines, tunnels, plants, animals, and much more. The attractions are listed by name, address, and GPS locations. INCLUDED Included are many tips on traveling around the state and seeing all the attractions it offers. CAMPING: South Dakota loves their visitors and they have many RV, Tent, and other campgrounds for your daytime or overnight stays. The manual has a listing by name, address, and GPS. CASINOS: Gambling is legal in some parts of the state, and this manual will show you where. CAVES South Dakota is dotted with natural caves that extend for miles and miles, and many are open to exploration. There is a short description of each, some history of each, the amount of time you should budget, and location directions. FISHERIES They raise fish in South Dakota, and you can visit one of these important sources of food and recreational sports while visiting. MEDICAL: Many travelers are children or seniors that may need medical help during their stay in the state. Also, if you get bit or in an accident you may just want medical help, so the manual has a section on the name, location, and GPS of medical / hospital facilities for most of the tourist areas. Included is a listing of Veterans Affairs (VA) facilities. MINES: South Dakota once was a very wealthy state in that gold was discovered and many areas of the state were mined for this precious commodity. Chapter #7 will show you where you can explore some of these 'gold' mines. MUSEUMS If it was made, thought of, or lost to history then there is a museum to tell the story, and South Dakota has its fill of museums for your enjoyment. NATIVE AMERICANS Wounded Knee is one of our USA history stories that many would like to forget, but it exists and you can travel out to the site and the museum. (See pages 57-60). Additionally, there are other Native American sites like the 'Crazy Horse' memorial that will welcome you. PLANTS: If you are a hiker or a person that just likes to walk in the wild once in a while, you will need to know about the plants that you should avoid. There is a listing included. RAILROADS The state has some very famous railroads and railroad museums that you can venture to, and even take an hour's ride upon. Chapter #10 can fill you in on where, with addresses, GPS, and Turn-by-Turn directions. ROADS & TUNNELS South Dakota's roads are very good and passable for most vehicles, but there are places that very large RVs and trucks should not attempt, the book tells you where. STATE & FEDERAL PARKS The landscape is dotted with state and federal parks that you can visit. Many of these are now National Monuments, or NPS facilities. Some contain caves, most have hiking trails, and some are on Native American lands. TRANSPORTATION & WEATHER If you are a visitor from afar, then you might enjoy this segment that provides airline, and other information along with average monthly weather. WATERFALLS There are waterfalls and Spearfish Canyon is the place to see some terrific and beautiful ones. WILD WEST & GHOST TOWNS You will find many listed in this touring guide. NOT INCLUDED The author does not include the addresses, phone numbers, or GPS of motels, hotels, restaurants, and other facilities that can go in or out of business in minutes.
