Michael Hirsch, a German Jew living in Hamburg during the Nazi rise to power, leaves behind a long statement that discloses some shocking private truths. His account reveals little-known details of the persecution, torture and killing before, during and after the war years, all of which have been overshadowed by the Holocaust and Nuremberg trials. Although his is a very personal story, the effect those harrowing times had on various individuals is at once universal and diverse.
