In 1851, 30-year-old Douglas Nisbet, a native of Kirkcudbright, Scotland, returned to his native land for the first time since emigrating to America 11 years earlier.
In this travel journal he recorded his four-month journey in great detail, including crossing the Atlantic on sailing and steam vessels, visiting his mother and siblings, and taking in numerous historic and natural sights across England and Scotland.
