This historical report was written by Honório Pereira Barreto in 1843, at a time when Portugal was struggling to maintain its colonial presence in West Africa. Barreto's report provides a detailed analysis of the economic, social, and political factors underlying the decline of the Portuguese colony of Senegambia, as well as recommendations for how to revitalize it.
