Om Migration, Ethnicism and the Reconstruction of Identities
"Memory is impregnated with myths and legends that give meaning to the shared past and to the present that is lived, assuming oneself as a community of destiny. For the indigenous people, belonging to the Evangelical Church gives it meaning; it is to be the chosen people according to biblical interpretation. This ideology is intertwined with the Calvinist sense that they are predestined to salvation and therefore to the future enjoyment of heaven; it is a perspective of maintaining the expectation of also sharing the future, projecting their ethnic uniqueness in a transcendent "ethos", beyond earthly restrictions; it is to be saved".
