In today's competitive market, fiber testing instruments must be very fast and accurate; otherwise, they will not be useful for commercial purposes. For example, the length, color, and trash content of hundreds of thousands of cotton bales should be tested within a very short period of time. Without having the data describing the properties of cotton fibers, cotton bales cannot be sold commercially in most countries. Many of the properties of cotton fibers can be assessed by using a HVI fiber-testing instrument.
