Om Once Upon A Train
The author's story is a candid and occasionally amusing recollection of 4 decades of a working life.
He commenced his working life as an apprentice. A commitment of five years that enabled learning a trade that eventually opened the door to other roles.
With self-belief in lifelong learning both formal and informal the opportunities within this benevolent bureaucracy enabled a degree of progression. Some taken, some missed but all rounded the man. He was a witness to the modernisation of the Victorian Railways from the era of a family styled bureaucracy to a privatised entity. With or without a ticket it was quite a ride.
