The 1970s and early 1980s were an incredible time for LGBT life--especially for gay males. A time of exuberant dance clubs, flourishing gay neighborhoods bursting with energy, and sexual liaisons seemingly available everywhere in America's major cities. It was also a time of crisis for gay men, however--in particular, the angry cultural wars that arose on the right, along with the rising scourge of AIDS.
Coming out in these years was fraught with complications. Finding and keeping a life partner was especially challenging because of the very sexual freedom that defined "gay liberation." In a culture where there was little glue to hold gay relationships together, Alex, Jimmy, and Devon faced their own individual challenges and demons in finding commitment and happiness-which in some cases proved to be all too brief.
