A young researcher at MIT, Jane Weiss is obsessed with finding the genetic marker for Valentine's disease, a neurodegenerative disorder that killed her mother. With a fifty percent chance of developing the disease herself, Jane throws herself into her research and steers clear of romantic entanglement, for fear of becoming a burden.
