Puritan Girl

When her beloved father dies, leaving her in debt, thirteen year old Anne's life quickly changes from one of privilege and luxury as an Earl's daughter to hardship she never dreamed possible. Thrown into debtor's prison and left with no hope of ever getting out, she grabs at the one dangerous chance which presents itself - indentured servitude. After a journey fraught with sickness, storms and much hardship, she endures the humiliation of being sold on the block and begins life as a servant in the new colonies. Anne's strict, sour-faced mistress is a Puritan and, through much trial and error, she quickly learns the ways of these somber, hard-working people. As time passes, Anne's views about life begin to change and she faces a surprising challenge just when she feels most settled.
