Question Of Tides (A Tidal Enigma)

Whilst it could be said that most educated folk understand the general science that landed men on the Moon in the latter part of the 20th Century it is sad that the very same people fail to understand the mechanics behind the tides - some might opine it is a terrible indictment of the educational system that this ignorance persists into the 21st Century.

The Moon does not directly pull the sea upwards to cause a tidal bulge any more than it does by pulling you up, so you feel a lot lighter. There are other forces at work that cause ocean tides and to a lesser degree, land and atmospheric tides.
