Red Dog

In Red Dog, the eighth volume of the Winds of War series, WWIII continues to rage as Chinook Helicopter pilot Marie Soto, call sign "Wizard," flies dangerous missions over war-torn Syria, and army Master Sergeant Felix Bone fights enemies both domestic and foreign. Meanwhile, agents for Russia, Turkey and ISIS vie to find Russian President Toplin's ex-mistress, a Syrian journalist named Hala Omar. Omar knows a great deal about the dictator, information Toplin is determined to protect, and others hope to profit from. Then, when a captured map reveals the existence of hidden gold, the search is on to find the stash-even as the Allies, the Axis, and various militias battle to control Syria. But there's another secret as well, one which puts Omar's life in even greater danger, as she struggles to survive and Soto strives to protect her.
