Om Restoration Staging, 1660-74
Arguing that early Restoration theatre and drama is misunderstood, owing to critical and theatrical neglect, this book cuts through received notions by reading the plays in their original theatrical contexts. Tim Keenan proposes that Restoration play texts encode more information about their own performance than has hitherto been recovered. Considering the play texts as corpora centred on production at the first Restoration theatres, he sheds new light on period staging practices.
