Her parents couldn't bring her back to the nest, but luckily she was found by humans and taken to a breeding centre where biologists care for endangered owls so they can be released back into the wild. The book describes efforts to save one of our most endangered species: the Northern Spotted Owl. Their forest homes from BC to California have been ravaged by logging over past decades. And their scrappier cousins, the barred owl, tends to push these gentler owls aside. Today, they are Canada's most endangered species and are listed as threatened under the US Endangered Species Act. But there are plans afoot to save them. The scientists working hard at the world's only breeding centre for spotted owls -- all young women -- have one of the world's most rewarding and important jobs, providing an inspiration for students everywhere to get involved with conservation biology."--
