Om Suture materials in periodontal therapy
Suturing is defined as the joining of incised tissues with needle and thread so that the tissues bind together and heal. Silverstein L.H (1999) ones defined the word ¿suture¿ as any strand of material used to ligate blood vessels, or approximate tissues to promote optimal healing, hemostasis, reduction of wound size to be repaired, prevention of unnecessary bone destruction and to withstand normal functional stresses. Evidence of suture were used dates back to 50,000 BC. The first description was found in sixteenth century B.C. by Greek doctor Hyppocrates who expounded the necessary rules for the wounds suture in his first traumatology texts.
