It is the 1950s, a time when the post-war American family can finally enjoy peace and prosperity. The automobile industry has exploded and America is on the move in the family car. June and Doc Bullard are the long-time proprietors of Bullard's Motor Court, a neat row of quaint tourist cottages on Route 66 in southwest Missouri. Famous for their biscuits and their hospitality, the Bullards and their faithful cook, Bernice, have a thriving business going. But when a shady character by the name of Wendell Sutton comes along, the unsuspecting couple is conned into making a bad business decision - one which makes Wendell their boss and sets into motion a chain of unpredictable fiascos. When an unrelenting rainstorm maroons some of the guests, friendships form, romance blossoms, marriage vows are tested, and secrets unfold. While destinies are being altered, June and Doc face more anxiety over a new interstate coming through, which could mean only one of two things. Were they sitting on a gold mine, looking at a lifetime of prosperity, or would the motor court be bypassed, fading into obscurity on the side of the road?
