Om Walt Disney
Walter Elias Disney was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 5, 1901, the son of Flora Disney (née Call) and Elias Disney, a Canadian-born farmer and businessman. He was of Irish, German, and English descent. Walt moved to Kansas City with his parents when he was seven years old, where he spent the majority of his childhood. During World War I, he pretended to be 16 years old in order to join the American Red Cross. He quickly returned home and was awarded a scholarship to the Kansas City Art Institute. He met fellow animator Ub Iwerks there. They soon established their own business. They created a series of animated shorts for the Newman theater chain called "Newman's Laugh-O-Grams" in the early 1920s. However, their company soon went bankrupt.
