Then a deadly hurricane blows over the city in 1926, catching everyone off-guard. Followed by another deadly storm in 1928 and the stock market crash of 1929, the city of Fort Lauderdale faced bankruptcy and receivership. But by the end of the decade, the city is recovering, with a new airport, and thriving shipping port and plans for a brighter future.
