Om Worn Out
Debut Author with Excellent Platform: Alyssa is regularly featured on panels and podcasts, and has spoken about fashion for the BBC. She has been a featured expert in her field for Refinery29, MSNBC, Bustle, InStyle, Marie Claire, and Fashionista. She also runs a newsletter through Bulletin which publishes twice weekly, called "This Stuff".
Tie-In: The book will publish in Fall 2022 to tie into New York Fashion Week.
Relevant and Timely Topic: People are waking up to the harms of fast fashion and the mass-production and mass-consumption that designer brands push. In October 2021, Gov. Gavin Newsom of California signed the Garment Protection Act (SB62) into law-a worker-led piece of legislation that will allow more than 45,000 workers to receive a minimum wage of $14 an hour. Alyssa covered the evolution and passage of this bill widely. The new Assembly Bill A8352 has also been introduced in New York in January 2022, which requires fashion retail sellers and manufacturers to disclose environmental and social due diligence.
Take-downs of name brands: The book includes exposés of recognizable brands including American Apparel, FashionNova, Boohoo, Nike, H&M, Zara, and many more.
