Central Asia Since Independence

When the Soviet Union officially ended in December 1991 and was replaced by the Commonwealth of Independent States, the five Central Asian republics-Kazakstan, Kyrgystan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan-also became independent.
