Dark chocolate contains the phytonutrient flavonoids, which are antioxidants that may have a role in cancer prevention and heart health. A Food Network nutritionist and author has suggested that a chemical called theobromine, which is contained in the cacao plant (from which chocolate is made), may help reduce inflammation and blood pressure.
One of the most often proclaimed benefits of dark chocolate is the possible effect it may play in improving heart health.
