Om Home Canning of Fruits and Vegetables
This pamphlet was Farmer's Bulletin 853, published by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in July 1917, in response to food shortages during World War I. Illustrated with photos and drawings. Covers all the details of canning, including sterilization, equipment, standards for 4-H brand vegetables and fruits, instructions for making jams, fruit butters, marmalades, and jellies. The authors were assistants in home-demonstration work in the South through the States Relations Service. Powell was author of the book "Successful Canning and Preserving," published in 1917.
