Om Markion Und Der Biblische Kanon / Christian Literature and Christian History
This volume presents two Hans Lietzmann Vorlesungen, held 2009 and 2013 in Jena and Berlin. Enrico Norelli¿s essay describes the Christians¿ struggle for identity in the second century, who tried to define what is christianismos and what is ioudaismos. To solve this problem, Marcion of Sinope tried to seek the authentic message of Jesus by collecting authoritative writings. Can Marcion therefore be called the ¿inventor¿ of the New Testament? Averil Cameron¿s essay asks whether the works of early Christian and patristic authors constitute ¿literature¿, and how historians of the early church and of late antiquity should use this enormous body of writing. Can it be judged on literary terms, and if so, how? Or is it simply an adjunct to the study of early Christianity?
