At 18 years old, Rachelle left her beloved born-again parents and her small town, Collier's Place, to work in the city for Douglas, a lifetime friend. Her ride in the stagecoach with Douglas to the city was the culmination of her many prayers to escape the smells, filth, and sweat of farm life.
